She was an abolitionist? White people are agents and vessels of white supremacy regardless of their so called beliefs. If you actually believe white women support in the advancement of black women, or women of color you're very mistaken. If that were the case, womanism wouldn't have to exist. The struggle of black women are unique, we're women and black.

Then tell me about the white girls I know who petitioned for a black girl who was raped and her rapist wasn't charged.

You should have faith in people. Not all people, but in some people. Not all white women support what you're saying they do and understand the link between racism and sexism. That's not to say all of them give a shyt, but to say white women, as a whole, don't care about black women seems a tad myopic.

I love black men. I don't know why black feminists have this look that they hate black men? I don't see myself ever being with a man who isn't black, yet I'm labeled as a lesbian and black man hater.

Yeah, it really sucks that the term "black feminist" comes with all of these untrue character traits that many of us do not have. But then again, white people think black empowerment means we all have rifles and want to kill them all.

so called black feminists attack white women almost as much, if not more than they attack white men. What exactly do yall want white feminists to do? a white girl attempting to reach out or express any kind of sisterly solidarity with black women will get greeted with a universal >:rudy:<

seen it play out on x100 times.

:ohlawd:
There is no "almost."
They do.
Thing is, they don't mind white women who target black males.
They were :smugfavre: over the white girl claiming harassment with the "Snowbunny," poster and they were fully behind the #YouOKSis movement.
Until of course, white women were thrown to the forefront and "black feminist" were sent to the rear for the millionth time.
As long as white women help their fight against the oppressive black male, they're cool.
:obama:
They better never speak in favor of those same black men, though.
Then they've overstepped their boundaries.
:whoa:

1. She was the founder of the movement and remains the figurehead to this day. No different that dominant society's reverence for George Washington or Abe Lincoln.

2. She did have horrible views. Fact. And although her views may not discount its "legitimacy" it reflects very poorly on the movement. And I highly doubt that she was the only person who held those views. Moreover, the feminist movement hasn't really changed philosophically since when it first started (other than being louder and earning more privileges)

3. Your analogy is off-base. The subsequent leaders and followers of the feminist movement never denounced her nor have they distanced themselves from her. And, like I mentioned earlier, I'm sure many of the subsequent leaders and followers believed/still believe in her views, albeit more secretly.

@The Electric Lady ...want to respond to my post? :beli: I figured such an intelligent poster like yourself can logically refute my points.

Black feminism recognizes that we have multiple identities. We are black and we are female. These different identity come with different sets of lived experiences and challenges. Black feminism also challenges white feminist thoughts about who is included and excluded in discussions about ideas about what it means to be a woman (since white feminists tend to exclude women of color), and the methods that are used to achieve greater equality.

To add to this white women don't face the included racism + sexism combo that women of color face. While society in general sexualizes women, every race has to deal with the different manners in which they're sexualized. For example, the Asian women are submissive trope, Latinas hot and spicy trope, etc etc.

White feminists will cape for white women who express their sexuality (Miley Cyrus) and reject the feminist label (Katy Perry) while attacking black women who do the same and state they're proud feminists (Beyonce). White sexuality= good while black/poc sexuality=bad.

The ideology behind feminism is equality. Not everyone will have the same philosophies as to how to even the playing field so saying "well some feminists do this and this and this" is such a shytty derailment tactic.

So was Malcolm X bitter and see through when he said: ""I've never seen a sincere white man, not when it comes to helping black people. Usually things like this are done by white people to benefit themselves. The white man's primary interest is not to elevate the thinking of black people, or to waken black people, or white people either. The white man is interested in the black man only to the extent that the black man is of use to him. The white man's interest is to make money, to exploit".

No because Malcolm was against any and all people who oppressed Blacks.

Many self-declared Black feminist seem biased in their work.

If you can show me how Black feminist are primarily attacking the White Male power structure or how they are building Black institutions then I will never speak against this movement again.

What is the point and what is the objective of being a black feminist?

Please trust, there are sincere white feminists, but there are many white feminists who "reach out" as a way to appear non-racist. It bolsters their agenda. I've worked with both types.

I disagree, feminism has changed. Women do believe in rights, freedoms, and choices however the issue of inclusion and racism has been addressed.

Fine. I forgot about it.

1. Susan B. Anthony did not invent feminism nor was she the founder of the movement. Please provide proof.

2. Susan B. Anthony might have had some terrible views. I'm afraid I don't know of them. Mind sharing? As for feminism having the same goals of when it originally started to gain traction, that's false. Feminism like any philosophy has evolved and changed with the times. Between the sexual revolution, the Summer of Youth, and 60's/70's feminist movement, saying that feminism as it is today had the same goals as it did in the 1800's is foolish.

3. They might, who knows. That doesn't change the fact that today, in my world, women are paid less, women's birth control and birth rights are being under attack, and women are taken less seriously in any type of circle despite being more educated, and more. All of this effects me and women I know. What do you want me to do? Just sit there and take it when I'm told I shouldn't be allowed to have equal pay despite my hard work going through university and working my ass to provide for my future?

Sound Reasoning
Can we please have an intelligent discussion on why some posters feel that feminism is a tool of white supremacy?

I've been accused of it several times. I would like to understand how some posters are making that connection.

Feminism was started as the white woman's complaint to her white male counterpart. The white male counterpart who owned the resources to control her fate and that of larger society. The white woman's complaint was NOT to men in general for she knew no other man could control her fate without the express permission of white male power structure.

Hell, at the time the movement was created, black men and even other non-white men were being brutalized across the country and mostly couldn't even marry white women. So, there was no possibility of them being the focal point as well.

SO, with that being said, feminism WAS AND IS a white woman's issue. They have used black women to increase their numbers for political maneuvering, but outside of that, they have repeatedly shown contempt for black women who try to champion causes that were made for white women.

White feminists back black women, who are feminists, when the rhetoric can be used as a weapon against black men, which is an aid to white supremacy. They have never and will never team up with black women against white male patriarchy. Black people have always been used as a tool against other black people whether house slave vs field slave, light vs dark, woman vs man.

So, when it comes to their role within "feminism", the black woman's job is to belittle, berate and b*stardize the image of black men. But those same white feminists will join white patriarchs to attack black feminists who turn that behavior towards the true culprit, white male patriarchy. And black women, who are feminists, know this whether they admit to it or not.

The fact is, the only ISM black people need to focus on is RACISM/White Supremacy. Everything is else is simply a distraction to the larger point. Because even if you were to not face discrimination as a woman, you would face it for being black. And you faced many of the same hardships as black men because of the weight of your RACE, not your gender.

Focusing on feminism is a cop out quite honestly. It's a way of saying "Hey, I'm like white women....I face discrimination for being a woman too. So, we're kinda teammates. And teammates help each other. So, I shouldn't have to be hit the RACISM/WHITE SUPREMACY club as hard since I'm a feminist like you, right?

White feminists don't go for it though.

Peace

Truth be told, I've seen more vitriol from "black feminist" directed towards other black women who wouldn't get down with the wave than I have seen any vitriol sent in the direction of any white male.
Any instance of harassment or brutalization of a black woman coming from anyone not a white female or black man is deflected or outright ignored.
The black women who refuse to ride with that nonsense get the, "You've got it fukked up, sis! " and a verbal lashing.
Maniacs get barbaric when a black woman won't fall in line.

I'm not looking at it from my experiences with individuals. I'm looking at the effect the movement's had, along with systematic injustice, on blacks in america.

Generally speaking, I don't see how black feminism has had a positive effect on the black community.

I've seen black feminism, along with white women, clamor for high profile black males to be brought down.

I've seen black feminism advocate for a full-fledged matriarchy in the black community, while minimizing the role of black men in families and in the community.

I have yet to see black feminism as a movement call out the bad apples among its bunch.

I have yet to see black feminism actively challenge dominant society.

Please feel free to address my shared concerns with many other men of color.

First, I'm not sure how you're defining feminism. It means so many different things to different people. And generally, I've found that the media and general public tends to latch on to the most extreme example/approach and won't let go.

There are a lot of loud people out there, saying a lot of crazy things that will harm the black community. Some are self-proclaimed black feminists, some get labeled as black feminists when really their agenda is not feminism at all, just fukking chaos and hatred.

Now you say black feminists don't call out these loonies, but perhaps that's because we have trusted (maybe wrongfully) that they will be recognized as loonies. The Ku Klux Klan is a Christian organization, but I rarely here condemnation from mainstream churches that call them out. They don't have to. Everyone knows the KKK does not represent mainstream Christianity, even though they call themselves Christians. I see this as the same thing. There are crazy women out there calling for crazy shyt, they do not represent black feminism, IMO.

Lastly, black feminism has challenged dominant society. Read up on AWARE (the African Woman's Action for Revolutionary Exchange) and all the things black feminists have and currently actively doing to combat the AMA and unnecessary medical procedure's, support the the anti-war movement during the Persian Gulf War in 1991, combat sexual violence through awareness, and most importantly through expanding scholarship about the psychological, social, legal, educational, and medical ramifications of being a black woman in America. Since many black women raise boys who will turn into black men, these things are critical.

At Ferguson, black women were on the front lines. Any time a black man or child is killed by some white dude or something, black women rally together.

Monetary-wise, Black women right now are trying to build our communities up through our own businesses:

Black women are taking care of our own. This cannot be disputed.
