why didnt any of you so-called dunk enthusiasts support that sprite slam dunk contest when they aired it on nba-tv? that was the better contest the past few years. ya man lebron even hosted it last year. and since some of you are such dunk gurus, you couldve sent a tape in to enter the competition yourselves. yall talk about how they shouldve brought people in off the street, but you didnt even support the street show that they helped showcased. if you did, they may have possibly considered incorporating it, in some way somewhere down the line(i doubt it, but still). and the d-league has their own dunk contest. yall never even acknowledge it, but now you want the d-leaguers to get involved. stop it.

f**k what ya heard, last night's contest was dope. ross & evans showed out in the finals, but got no props for it because barkley wants to get moist over superstars.

lebron cant dunk better than any of the dudes that were in the contest, and hes already gone on record stating that hes not built for this competition.

contest didnt live up to my expectations. i thought green & white were gonna have another legendary showdown, this time on the biggest stage, but it didnt work out. i also thought faried was gonna pull a dwight/blake.

but yea, contest was still dope.

whats a better format?

The problem with the dunk contest is these players are all bums. You get these nikkas who never get in the game on national TV with millions of people and all their peers watching. They get nervous as fukk and miss dunks they probably make all the time in practice.

The best dunk contests are always the ones with star players in it because they are used to that spotlight.

They need to invite a few more guys, find ways to get more legit stars involved (introduce more money if you have to) and cut it down to 2 rounds, and 2 attempts per round. You should not be out there missing 6 times. Bring the top 3 or 4 to the 2nd round for the title.

It's a joke that Bron has never competed in this.

:what:

those dunks have all been done better a million times over, even by smaller dunkers. everybody that was in the contest last night, can do those dunks in their sleep.

this is exactly why i commend lebron for staying out of the contest. hes not a competition dunker, and all he would do is get an un-deserved victory. it would be like when candace parker beat J.R. SMITH in that mcdonalds by barely getting the ball over the rim with the most basic dunks possible.

when was this?

they were airing it the past 2 or 3 years on nba tv during all-star saturdays. they were airing them at like 12 noon.

you can prolly find it. look up the sprite dunk contest or something.

if they shorten the attempts, the contestants will dumb down their dunks and do easier chit. basically the dunks that they do when the shot clock is down to 5 seconds.

you dont want that.

:what: There is no dunk worth seeing after somebody just went out and missed it nine times. You either do it or not.

And most of the old dunk contests that people loved were limited by attempts instead of time.

simple dunks were being rewarded last night, 'cause nobody had time to watch a nikka fail for 70 secs and "succeed" in the last 20.

You can either do the shyt right or not at all.

and thats why those old dunk contests became old & repetitive.

this may come off as blasphemous but people love to romanticize those wilkins & jordan contests, and rightfully so, but their chit was a bit repetitive. also, jordan's signature dunk was done by dr j 10 years prior.

if you want people to play it safe, then cool. but you cant have your cake and eat it too. theres only so much that the human body can do. if you want innovation at this point, youre going to have to either settle for missed attempts or just watch the highlight reels. people dont realize how difficult these dunks are. michael jordan most likely couldnt pull off alot of those dunks from last night, but he'll never get criticized for it.

which dunks were simple?

i think one of those bledsoe dunks was the only one that truly got a higher score than it deserved, but keep in mind, hes not a big guy.

its total bullshyt. the stars haven't been in it since 2000 with the vince contest. and they participate in every other all star weekend even OTHER than the dunk contest.

Vince should be considered the last Slam Dunk Champion. It just aint been shyt since. That was the last time I felt anything for that shyt.

Prime Vince :to:

thats my slam dunk champ

They'll bring in stars next year, which means adding props, like when Dwight Howard wore a cape or Blake dunked over a car hood in a rigged slam dunk contest sponsored by Kia. They could try it without props, but they'll probably just copy the dunks of yesteryear, and I don't want to see Lebron James jump from the free throw line if cynical a$$holes are just going to spend the next 5 years talking about how Jordan's was better anyway and Lebron only got a 50 because he's Lebron James. People will complain about props again, and they'll bring on real dunkers who aren't stars. People will then complain about star power, and we'll just be stuck in an endless circle of cynical suck.

We'l do this over and over, because people don't want to realize 2 things.

1. All the dunks have been done. And if they haven't been done on All-Star Saturday, they're been done in some empty gym on Youtube by fukkboys who can jump over buildings in a single bound but whose only means of making it to the NBA is buying 200 level seats with the remainder of their tips from pizza deliveries.

2. The NBA Slam Dunk Contest, as a contest to discover the most acrobatic and creative dunker in the NBA, is done. Kaput. Finito. Waste away your days on Youtube watching Vince Carter spin around and slam with the power of a thousand Zulu kings for the billionth fukking time. Those Saturdays left us long time ago.
