I forgot, this game was truly peek turnbase tactics.

A part 2 with modern day game logic would be :whew:
Nah.

LUCT/Ogre Battle/FE Thracia beat it out.

I will say that LUCT/FFT are classic fun games, but in terms of strategy games they're broken and I've felt this for damn near 30 years.

Building a broken unit is fantastic fun but making it via the hand you're dealt is where strategy shines, hence the classic FE being the peak of the genre.

And Triangle Strategy is a new classic.

Facts. Triangle Strategy on hard mode scratches that itch too in terms of really having to strategize.

Also that Valkyrie profile DS game. Yikes.

You don't HAVE to build broken units. I don't think that disqualifies FFT or LUCT from being peak, as a matter of fact, I'd argue it makes them better than most FE games from a gameplay perspective. You can customize your experience more which makes it possible to try unique challenge runs to add replayability (IE: solo'ing the game with Ramza).

I'm not the biggest Fire Emblem fan, though, tbh. FE games at their core wind up being advanced rock, paper, scissors gameplay, which is cool but it's limiting. The best FE games are the ones with better stories and characters to go with the gameplay. Gimme Three Houses over Thracia every time.

I've gotta try Triangle Strategy.

A man's opinion is his own and he's entitled to it but i strongly disagree and have for again, almost three decades.

The children of the TO/FFT school of design are the Disgaes of the world, where breaking the game is the point.

Just look at something like Berwick Saga, and see how real it can get with just the weapons triangle and creative level design.

I will say that in terms of narrative, TO/FFT have FE beat, but that's because they're not Matsuno, in terms of writing chops.

Disgaea definitely takes gamebreaking to the extreme. I feel like I neglect story modes in Disgaea just to level up my items and weapons.

I've never played Berwick Saga, but I just set up a PS2 emulator to replay the Suikoden games (I've heard Suikoden Tactics is a slept on gem, but never played it). So I'll definitely find a rom and give it a spin. I'm definitely a fan of the FE games, especially some of the later ones. Three Houses is another gem worth shouting out.

Suikoden Tactics is hella slept on. Challenging but rewarding. Really 4 and 5 (I believe Tactics takes place after 4) need revisiting.

I stopped playing Suikoden after 3 (mainly because I was just too busy to game as much at the time). So, now I'm pretty hype to play through 4,5 and Tactics. I'm around halfway through 3 and I'm gonna go through them in order since I beat 1 and 2 when the remake dropped. I've heard really good things about 5 and Tactics in particular.

A lot of people stopped paying attention to Suikoden after 3 which is a real shame.

This game was amazing man, just beat it a few hours ago. Was skeptical of this game since I tried out the Tactics Ogre demo and didn’t really like it but man this game was really good.:wow:

That story is amazing. Story wise this game is what FF XVI was trying to be but failed miserably.:mjlol: But yeah story, gameplay and of course the music was A+.

Ran into a couple of roadblocks here and there and had to a do a couple grinding sessions to get past them but once I got the Brawler and Dual Wield combo and Olandrieu in my party I started smoking everyone.:mjlol: I specifically remembered running into Wiegraf/Belis. I could deal with Weigraf but Belias kept smacking me up. When I unlocked dual wielding I think I beat Belias in 1 turn.:dead:

But yeah I give this game an 8.5/10. I had way more fun than I thought I would.

Yeah:mjlol: I could handle Wiegraf but Belias was too much to handle directly after that fight.

I got stuck at a couple points and had to do some grinding sessions:
- Cuchulia or whatever the hell his name was. He was the first “monster” boss I faced and I was definitely unprepared for him. He got the first turn during the fight and would instantly put my team at low health.:snoop: I grinded out Holy for my White Mage and smoked him in a couple turns.:russ:
-The Orbinne Monastery level with the dragoons, time mages and the chemist had me frustrated. The mages kept throwing Haste on themselves and Slow on my team so I barely even had my own turns. I eventually did some grinding and threw on a Reflect Ring on my team and got past then.

There might have been another one but I don’t remember off the top of my head.:russ:
