Calling final fantasy open world is like calling super mario world an open world game.
ya'll are just saying because of how the graphics were back then. The witcher 3 follows the same conventions and is considered one of the best open world games

What? It has nothing to do with graphics:laff::laff::laff:. Have you ever really played an open world game? You are not forced to go from point A to point B like in FF.

You can complete many different objectives and beat the game at your own pace in witcher 3. Final fantasy has always limited you on where you can go until you accomplish very linear and specific goals, and there aren't that many side quest to detract you.

The world map works the same way as the world map in super mario. It's a fancy way of leading you down a linear path.

The square enix has even said as much.

Not true, in the witcher you have to compete specific objective before you can even leave white orchard. You can't just start the game and starting doing side quests in skeligga.

Same thing with breath of the wild and grand theft auto.

The game makes you accomplish a few goals then opens up to dozens of hours of content that you are free to beat in whatever order you want.

You sound like u dont understand what open world means.

Square enix has even admitted that the world map just gave the illusion of open world when they were explaining why they did away with the world map in ffx 12 and 13.

so witcher 3 is not an open world game? I think you are confusing sandbox with open world. The order of the objectives you undertake is irrelevant.

Yes it is. The map opens up within the first few hours.
No it doesn't :gucci:

You can't even visit Kaer Morhen until after you've completed the main quest missions in 3 different areas. You have to progress to point where you found the ugly baby. That's literally halfway through the game.

Open world just means you can take a non linear route to your next objective in a 3d environment. You can take a scenic route or a shortcut etc.
Sandbox means you can progress the story at your own pace in whatever order you want. Those are two different things.

My point is that that whole first half of the game is not open world so it's misleading to classify the game as an open world game. FF7 is my favorite game of all time so I already know what to expect. I don't want people who never played it to be misled and end up expecting something that the isn't.

First half??? Bro, Midgar is barely a quarter of the game. You receive several vehicles as the game progresses.

He's forgetting all about Chocobo's too.
I never said Midgar was the first half of the game and it seems you guys have no idea what an open world game is. When you leave Midgar can you go anywhere in the world? And no I did not forget about any of the other vehicles or the chocobos. Until you reach a certain point in the game, you are not free to explore the whole world. That means the game is not open world.

You posted this and still say FF7 is open world. I give up.

yes, midgar is tunneling because its a city....

then it is open world.. however.. they decided to fully explore midgar...so first game.. midgar is the whole world.
