People don't realize that Kanye hasn't had true radio hits since Golddigger and Stronger... MBDTF didn't sell that well either. He's a gold artist now as far as record sales go, but hits tours and festivals will always be big.

Heartless maybe qualifies

But Mercy and nikkas in Paris were more or less conventional hip hop songs with guests stars who are very popular with urban listeners. Gold diggers and Stronger were straight pop songs at the height of his popularity. Heartless is a bit of an outlier. Stuff like Runaway, New Slaves, whatever are ultimately hipster bait, which isn't gonna sell... He lost the pure pop sales with the Taylor Swift incident, and he doesn't make many singles for urban radio. So he sells less than his ceiling can be

Kanye is claimed to be the biggest rapper in the game, and he has the best reviews by far. Yet MBDTF barely went plat and significantly undersold LR and Graduation. This album will undersell MBDTF. For better or for worse his commercial appeal has declined a bit even as his critical props increase

I'm not criticizing Kanye, just explaining why this aint surprising

If you're Kanye West and you throw in the building promotion(you keep disregarding that. I don't know why) and SNL perfomance? Yes. Probably.

Lupe's F&L II songs weren't played on the radio breh. Your most successful single peaking at #62 is evidence enough, and that only happened because Lupe is a relatively big name. It's understood the compromise that Lupe made with Atlantic was that F&L II would allow him more artistic freedom at the expense of having almost no promotion at all. The exact opposite of Lasers.

Kim baby hype isn't going to make people buy albums. It will get him more attention outside of the music world but those people usually aren't checking for him. They aren't going to crossover to listen to him.

He really should have. I feel like J Cole's numbers are way up and Kanye's are way low.

Ill say the latter..but I do think Kanye core stans bought the album..
I think J Cole sales is a Piggy Back mostly.. On any other week, he'd proably do 60k less..
