i say BOTH. the mere fact that j. cole hit 300K with an album that been leaked HALF A MONTH AGO!? that's fucckin' amazing...

with that said, this is the LOWEST kanye EVER had in debut of sales for an album. and don't use the "no promo" excuse either, because EVERYONE knew when it was coming out... hell, j. cole promoted it harder than 'ye! and the so-called critics was dicck swallowing over it...

Kanye is claimed to be the biggest rapper in the game, and he has the best reviews by far. Yet MBDTF barely went plat and significantly undersold LR and Graduation. This album will undersell MBDTF. For better or for worse his commercial appeal has declined a bit even as his critical props increase

Also, those were top 10/20 singles, he used to do top 5

Basically its his version of Rebirth or I am not a human being...that's how you have to look at it. When Rebirth sold 176,000 the first week did nikkas say Wayne was done? IANAHB did even less than that, but when he got the full promo machine behind Tha Carter 4 he did fine.

If Ye made a whole album of songs like Bound 2, released a radio single a month ago, went on talk shows, did radio interviews, etc. this shyt would have easily pushed around 600-700k.

Both breh. J. Cole has a bigger & more dedicated fanbase than ever before, and people are reluctant towards Kanye's new sound.




People blaming the low Yeezus sales on lack of promo are wrong. It's Kanye West, ever since the Taylor incident there is not gonna be a casual, non-hip-hop fan in the world who would check on him and buy his music. But for the most part, casual hip hop fans/heads or music enthusiasts in general knew about the album. Plus, he's got a legion of fans ready to buy anything he comes out with. Radio, interviews, posters, etc. aren't really raking in any significant album sales. The only other thing that could have hurt his sales a bit was that it was a quiet release, almost like underground.
