Finally read Cosbys whole speech. Why would a black person disagree?

Giving money means nothing if your message and actions are damaging.

Bill gates has given more than both of them combined, should we be respecting him as the leading activist for black issues?

These dudes pay to hear rappers tell them how they are better than them because of their car, watch and crib and brag how they will take their girl..

But Bill Cosby is just too "condensending" and they just aren't gonna stand for him talking down on Black folks like he's better than them..

:mjlol:

But "I got a bottle of cologne that costs more than your rent" is all gravy right...
they dont hear you breh. Say condescending to them, you'd get clowned, like you the dumb one.

What Lil boosie say about blacks? Something like "they the worst race". Go to the hood and talk bad about boosie, these fools will stop short of spitting in your face.

Play the quote for them and they'll have some excuse, cause he a real nikka or something like that.

What about females that love songs that degrade women? They say he aint talkimg about me and keep dancing to " whoop that trick".

shyt is bizarre.

No. You can't just take numbers and spin them into the narrative you want. That kills your credibility. And this is just one example. You asked and I have it to you. The speech is full of tone-def and misguided analysis such as this.

No, it doesn't. When only 50% of black HS students graduate, the remaining students either: drop out, go on "special education," or graduate later. The Cosby's narrative was that we have too many black kids not graduating from high school (whether on-time or at all). That means we are continuing to lose ground to whites and other non-blacks. Cosby's main point was that there's not enough parenting in our community and that we're losing our sense of progress. Why is that bigger point being missed by you just because he misstated a stat?

I m sure Cosby doesnt mean 100% but GENERALLY SPEAKING he is right. These mofos out there are "sweet beautiful things born by nature raised by no one"

My parents always said they'd "rather be a parent and make you cry now [while you're young] than for you to make me cry when you're older".

No generally speaking he's not correct.

The speech isn't calling "a spade a spade"

Standing up in front of educated proper English speaking African Americans and projecting the behavior of the lowest of the low on all of us is more akin to calling the entire deck "spades"

What's your threshold for "too many"

In reality regardless of race or situation. You take ten people, a couple will go above and beyond, a couple will totally fail, and the majority will fall in the middle somewhere. You take that same ten people and place a systemic constant burden on their shoulders, then only the extraordinary will make it. It's not a conducive strategy to say black people should ignore everything else and just be extrodinary. It just doesn't work like that.

No the "message" is one that's been used since the begening of time to justify unfair treatment and to place the blame on those being oppressed. It's been examined time and time again, and everytime its been bullshyt

:salute:Cosbys speech just played on the divisiveness that has been there between poor and upperclass blacks for decades....upperclass black person makes it and tells poor blacks they need to pick themselves up by the bootstraps like they did:wtb:...Lashes out at poor blacks becuz they are "making all blacks look bad"....Bill Cosbys entire speech had that stink all over it....If you know your history you just know when a rant feels like one of those speeches....its not that it has no truth to it,but it just feels slimey and you don't like where it "feels" like its coming from....who he was giving thesee speeches to,the cacs who love his speeches should tell you that it aint right...like folks have said cacs don't promote Farakhan or Malcolm calling out blacks.....but hey I guess folks will love what Charles Barkley had to say 10 years from now:manny:

off topic but :salute: to the goat

What? If a person at 20% and anther is at 75% completion of a race the person at 20% will never catch the person at 75% if the coach say follow the exact pace of the runner in front of you.

Without doing extra you'll never catch up( they went extra in the 60s and 70s amd all that momentum has been squandered and now the white media is using a speech by a black man to a black audience about parenting is being teamed up against by other blacks to silence him and destroy his name, fukk yall) White folks dont give a fukk about you what do yall not get?

Now yall mad that someome expects more out of you than the minimum/easy way.

To add to that the 75% is still fighting to keep the lead with extra gatorade while you got just water.

Boy yall sure love and care about how white think about yall.
j
you dont get it.
its not 70% vs 20% and work 4 times as hard to catch and surpass the 70. sorry it dont work like that.

white man is at 70%. not elite white man but not that elite, not that intelligent, not that special. is at 70%.
your Elite black man is at 20%.. so guess where your not so elite, average joe black man is sitting? .... thats right, around 10 to 15%.

Elites will always be elites. average joes will for the most part be average joes. and theres' nothing wrong with that. its reality. STOP EXPECTING AVERAGE PEOPLE TO BE WAY ABOVE AVERAGE. its not going to happen. thats a pipe dream. it didnt happen in the 70's, 60's, 50's, 40's, etc.

You only remember the pictures and the books. you saw brothas and sistas with that black fist up, you saw them dressing well, some speaking well. So now you think MOST of them were like that. not so fast. Nuccas were living in watts during the 60's. hood nuccas. doing what hood nuccas do. the same thing that hood nuccas do in watts today. NO difference.

you're just being nostalgic because thats how the stories were passed down to us by our parents/grand parents.

The same 60's folks were some of the ones who got on crack, heroine, etc too at 40 when the 80's came thru . some of those Bpanthers were not all 100% perfect. They had issues too.

Thats just life. average people are going to remain average. ELITE will be elite. The unfair situation is that they are asking our average joes to be ELITE. but their average joes can remain average but reap the benefits far above even a lot of our elites.
There's no way to catch up to someone with those kind of rules, that also keeps changing the rules to keep you down.

Jordan was ultra rich and a star for a long time. but how long did it take them to finally give that guy a basketball team as an owner? and it was a black man who sold his team to him. how did that black man get it? they gave him an expansion team. a horrible team. so even in ownership black man is starting at 20%, while the white man is at 70%(lakers). there were other franchises that mike wanted to purchase. the bucks(at the time they were doing ok, and have a decent enough roster to work with. ) that owner virtually refused to sell the team to mj. and it wasnt about the money. we all know what it was.

and the nba is more progressive with race relations then most of the leagues. so if thats progressive how bad are the non progressive parts of society?

The reality is you will never get average people to become ELITE.

thats like asking a guy that was born with a low IQ to all of a sudden become super smart . not going to happen. or its like asking a 5'2 guy with no hops and no speed. to work hard and one day he will be in the nba. thats a flat out lie and its actually wasting his time telling him this. as well as messing with his mind once he cant reach that unattainable goal. give people realistic goals. if they show you signs of them being elite in some area. give them a bigger goal. so forth and so on.

"50% graduation rate" absolutely does not mean that only 50% graduate.

Until you understand this distinction, there's no point in continuing this conversation.

And we aren't "loosing ground" when that rate raises every year. That's called gaining ground.

And our communities have more quality parenting and progress than they ever have in the past.

Like I said the speech and your subsequent defense are full of misguided analysis that doesn't hold true to reality.

First tv show i know of that didnt fit the white narrative of a black family is damaging? I know, he was looking down on blacks by not portraying blacks as poor like the whites usually wanna portray us. What about black colleges and also being black talking to blacks.

You quick to through that white man in the mix to discredit a black person aint you. You wanna throw donald sterling in there to hes won(bought them)awards within the black community also.Smh.

Rappers brag about making it despite the obstacles out here for blacks. Cosby blamed black people for not making it while ignoring the elephant in the room(white supremacy). It's also completely disingenuous to compare rap lyrics(entertainment) to a speech that was supposed to address serious socio-political issues. :snoop: A lot of you are seriously dumb as fukk.

If that's what you got from his speech, I feel sorry for you.

Cosby was telling our community that "we" need to hold ourselves to higher standards

So you can't take the out of wedlock rate, and make any definitive statement about the way kids are raised in the black community.

That's exactly how propaganda works, and its a shame an educated person such as yourself has fallen for the okie doke.

If I just said I know how it works, that means that I'm not fallin for it. However, it's just as naive to think that the gap in out of wedlock rates are filled by people who just live together and not married also because that sure is not true.
