While I agree that mj is GOAT, PER was actually created under the assumption that Jordan is GOAT. If you read Hollingers book he describes adjusting the formula to make sure MJ came out on top, since he felt that MJ was GOAT.
The other popular/commonly used all encompassing metric to compare players historically is BPM/VORP and LeBron actually comes out number 1 in that one
