One man wave creating machine that originated trends that are being surfed to this day.

The sound of modern music across the world and the people active in those fields would be totally different without JB as he paved the roads others walked on as he redefined the scene when he stepped on it.

JB is like the foundation. You don't see it but its the most important part and what everything else rests on.

James Brown is the king of the vamp..and therefore the DNA of everything that revolves around a repetitive groove..no house,no disco,no hip hop. Nothing on a 4/4 downbeat meant to make you dance was possible without James..look at the people that played for him, from Bootsy Collins to Jimi Hendrix,Maceo Parker,Fred Wesley, Clyde Stubblefield

What about ray charles?

Ray Charles is a pioneer and legend.

Our greats have represented the ongoing genius and innovation of art that we've been blessed with --basically up until the 21st Century when it seems to have fallen off a cliff.

Frankly, comparing artists, genres, etc. has become the hobby of the Smart Phone Generation looking for
argument playtime on Twitter, Facebook, The Coli, Lipstick Alley, Reddit, etc

From what I have read and seen in videos, James Brown was the hardest working man in show business.

I read that if the band had a bad set, he would make them redo the whole set again.

Another full hour or 2 after everyone left.
Who the fukk does that?

repost from another thread

I am not even sure that is true, but if you want to believe that then fine. Just so folks know though. James Brown was well known in the rest of the World. He did a concert in Zaire in 1974 in a packed stadium.

anyone who think james brown wasn't iconic globally has no idea what they're talking about. Brown had euro cac's throwing up the black power fist and screaming "Soul Power"

Was he ever bigger than Michael Jackson. What about prince

James Brown was bigger than both on a pure musical level in that his musical language/image went all around the globe and influenced the music in lands far removed from the USA but MJ and Prince were bigger in a crossover to white consumers kind of way. Actually, MJ would get the white crossover audience and the brown/yellow/black global audience on a non-musical level in a way that neither Brown or Prince (he did have the white crossover audiences but he wasn't big overall in the global brown/yellow/non-american black world) did.

this is frustratingly ignorant and should automatically disqualify any opinion you have on music. Prince, Ernie Isley, Vernon Reid and Slash are white boys?

fukk outta here.

The only ignorance is you not understanding James Brown’s contribution to music, while at the same time propping up music that mostly appeals to cacs and nikkas that want to be cacs.

Vernon Reid was born the same year as MJ. I’m pretty sure James brown influenced him. What the fukk are you even talking about? Plus Rock is dead. James browns DNA is still in popular music circa 2021......
