Between undergrad and my first graduate program, I have roughly 50K in federal loans (however, I have to submit forgiveness paper work for some of this because I taught for a number of years so it will be slightly less).

In addition to that, I owe Sallie Mae 2K, but I am paying that off on September 1.

My Phd program is free and I'm not paying rent for the next two years so I expect to be okay.

Bingo.

LMAO.

Finance is a good major, but it depends on how well you use it. Knowledge of money is very important. Something I would also suggest is learning a second language (spanish, french, haitian creole) and getting certifications in different finance sectors (I am not knowledgeable on that but look into it). You can also own your own business later down the road if you take your major very seriously. Why didn't you go into accounting? I'm not knocking your major but truly interested. Some people prefer accounting and some prefer finance.

I wish you good luck with your debt though. I would be crying over that instead of what some chick thinks.

Kinda want to get into venture capital or maybe even work for a large hedge fund. There's so many avenues you can go in finance. Definitely will have to get my CFA or MBA though (or both).
Accounting is boring, at least to me. Even though accounting is pretty much the essentials to everything in finance.

The ultimate goal is to work, make some money, quit, and become self-sufficient and employee my Black people :blessed:... I refuse to work for these CACS 30 years of my life. I'd rather get rich or die trying..

I go to school for finance i prefer it over accounting bc I hate journalizing entries. I think that's a big reason why I flunked my last accounting course.

That was my least favorite part of undergrad.
We lost a lot of people to Chemistry and Physics.
You ultimately made the right decision though, because if your heart truly isn't in it, it's hard to power through.
There's obviously math in med school, but 95% of the time, you're tasked with absorbing ridiculous volumes of information and regurgitating it a week and a half later.
The trick if you're not really a math guy/girl is getting through undergrad.

i found Physics(calc-based) to be easier than Chem in my case.

Interesting.........thanks for the perspective. The accounting majors that I meet say they like accounting better for job opportunities, and the finance majors that I meet like finance because they love learning about financial management.

I had somewhere between 14-16k in loans after I graduated. I paid it off in 4 years. I paid the minimum for years. Once I got a better job, I was able to pay the whole thing at once. I hated paying off that much money at once, but I felt good not having to worry about it again.

I'm actually think about going back after I get my bachelors for finance and getting my accounting degree.
Of course I have to get better at journalizing. But like yu said financial management is my main interest when it comes to business

it wouldn't be a bad idea for you to get a degree in accounting. You would have most of the credits since you already majored in finance?
