For those of you who've seen NBA players play in HS, how good are they?

Saw KD play at the McDonald's game.

Lanky as a bytch, but that jumper was dripping. Dude had to be like 6'9 in shoes at that time, but he was running the floor like a guard. You could see the potential on both ends of the floor. If he added muscle, dude could finish over anyone and anything. Wingspan was massive, easily reached the rim with little vertical.

After watching that shyt, I immediately got my Sports Illustrated for Kids and was looking him up.

Then he went to Texas and averaged 25 on 47/40/80 :mindblown:

I thought his game was just all around fluid and smooth. Complete contrast to Oden who was just using his height and weight to bully dudes. His potential was balancing on whether or not he could add the skill and touch to his game, shyt KD already had.

Still crazy to me how Portland picked him over Durant even with his injury history in high school

I saw OJ Mayo and Bill The Walkers run at NCH in Cincy.

it was NEXT LEVEL, the only team that beat them was Oak Hill.

Also saw Daquan Cook at Dunbar in Dayton.

In Football i saw Peerless Price, he was NICe

That NCH game vs Canton McKinley with Raymar Morgan was a classic game.

Dayton Dunbar also had Norris Cole they was stacked those years

I'm played HS in the mid to late 90s so it was really just before AAU really blew up. Only person I played on the court with who I knew 100% was going to the NBA was Tim Thomas. Of course back then I was cocky myself and I never admitted it then but he was in another world.

Played in a tournament with Kobe and I was like "he ain't all that" :russ: My cousin played for St Anthony's and beat his team and it allowed me to hate on him more.

I played against Jay Williams in HS but he was a few years younger and wasn't noticeable whatsoever. The only reason why I even remembered him because he was the only black kid on the team and we played them often. I come back to see a high school game on break from college and people are telling me he's going to Duke :dwillhuh:. Dude must have been putting in extra work because he definitely wasn't a prodigy.

folks I’ve seen:

Wagner: def stood out from all the players on the court. Wasn’t hitting all his jumpers like normal, but could get to any spot he wanted and could get to the lane at will. Smoothest player in the court. The hype was real.

al Harrington: stood out, but more so for athleticism. Was just dunking and blocking everything. Someone mentioned it earlier where you players with strong iq’s, athleticism, or BOTH.. Wagner has both. Al had athleticism.

played against Jay Will in a pick up game. His team was losing, and then he just turned on another gear and made all their last points to eventually win. His speed was what was noticeably different and he could get to every spot he wanted.

:myman:

YEA thats his name.

from the size to the style of play, he reminded me so much of my cousin - who i always said was the best player i seen growing up in my age group. he was upstate for murder at the time, so i took an extra liking to burton when i watched those chester games.

wonder what burton is up to now??

The thing about Wagner was he did things so effortlessly. He was athletic but nothing too crazy and he wouldn't even use it like that. He would just get to a spot and before you knew it and would drop a easy bucket. His game would be perfect for this era..too bad he got sick

Its crazy that you mention Al's athleticism.because to me he didn't have much at all. But dude worked on his game something serious to make the league. He was always ttall but really didn't become special until his sr yr of high school

ahhh. That makes sense about Al. I was young when I went to see him. I was either in middle school or elementary. I think he was a Senoir at that time. I just remember him being dominant on the court

In Dallas, From Cleveland
First player I ever seen that made it to the NBA was TJ Ford. He was a Senior when I was sophomore and Willowridge was at a tournament we were in. He was basically like Chris Paul just making all the right plays at the right time. Easily the best player there but I wouldn't say dominant. I knew he go to a top college but I didn't necessarily think he'd make it to the NBA. But he did! Got better every year and if wasn't for that spine injury would have had a nice career

Now Julius Randle was a totally different story. Was at happy hour and we found out his school was playing right down the street so we randomly went to the game. Knew from the opening tip of the game he was on another level. He was like a machine first a right elbow jumper, post up on right block, top of the key iso, left elbow jumper. post up on left block, Wing iso. It was a Clinic, he was elite, bigger, quicker than everybody and I knew he was going to NBA before halftime of that game :russ:

Outside of Mike Sweetney and Jeff Green, I was at the 2004 Jordan Brand Classic when it was at my school.

Dwight Howard really was on a different level. He looked like he was barely tryin and was levels ahead of everyone.

That game had All Jefferson, who was so damn efficient in the post. He looked like a five year pro in that game.

Rondo was beastly too and was making all the correct decisions on the court.

Rudy Gay, who the crowd booed because he got the bigger bag to goto UConn instead of UMD.

Daniel Gibson, Jordan Farmar, Lamarcus Aldridge, DJ White, Corey Brewer, AJ Price and Dorrell Wright as players who made the NBA.
