Okay. So why is econ always listed in the top 10, 15 majors ahead of finance and accounting?
Because if you happen to get a job, it will be in the financial sector and you are likely to get paid. That's a given. And I've seen plenty of lists where it's been the other way around (with finance/accounting over econ, or econ not listed at all), so gtfoh with that "always" shyt. They flip flop all the time.
The main point I was trying to make was that the economics degree looks great, but does not mean you will fall into $$$. Just about all companies have the need for employees who can do accounting or finance and HR depts can clearly see how what you learned can be applied to their business.
Its more tricky with an econ degree because it says that you have some financial concepts down, but its not as easy to see how you put them in action. I'm talking from an employment standpoint, not about earning potential.
You have to get the job to actually make the money, and I think there is more of a market overall for finance/accounting than econ grads. Either way though, you gotta NETWORK
