There is really no controversy: Weis didn't use the word "boy" as Americans can use it. Its meaning was closer to "dude" or "guy".
Embiid was already seen by many French and Africans as a mercenary who chose the easy path (=win with a stacked team USA).
The French gvt should have never given him the citizenship. His only attachment to France is having 2 uncles living there and that he likes the country and its football team... Even his French is bad.
I've heard many people say that he used France to pressure to USA in order to obtain the American citizenship. Wemby/Gobert/Embiid would have been a force to reckon with for Team USA.
