I know it's way more nuanced than that and the bolded is correct, but I find it really hard to feel bad for a former finance minister, like c'mon how many more, "I used to x, now I'm y" sob stories are we gonna get from former elites from corrupt ass countries?

How are you a country’s finance minister but you’re not savvy enough to manage your finances so you can live it up in Dubai.

No, I applaud him. These countries go to sheet because people enrich themselves. He seems like he had integrity. Many would have had millions stashed and move to another Middle Eastern country.
