I know some brothers who went there for work and stayed multiple years past what they were supposed to. They enjoyed their time there. Said they didn't really experience any overt racism because people tend to keep to themselves and not bother you. One of the main reasons they stayed was because they weren't constantly having to deal with the racism they faced in the states.
Safety was another positive. All my people grew up in NY housing projects or Jersey. Being able to move around without their heads on a swivel was a huge stress reliever.
They did say old people can be xenophobic but they still don't bother you.
They moved around freely and didn't have any issues other than the language barrier and adapting to cultural norms and the food.
Surprisingly they all did well in their professions and some moved on to different companies for more money. Their coworkers seemed cool and they would go out drinking or to clubs damn near every night.
All said they rarely saw fat people and Americans are an embarrassment on that end
They were all fukked up after returning to the states and had to readjust to having their defenses up 24/7.
I forgot to mention that none of them were into anything Japanese before going. No anime or anything besides eating sushi. I thought they'd all hate it but extended their stay another 2-3 years.
They all recommended I go. I actually had an interview with a company after getting my degree but didn't land the job
