It's greatest quality is the lyricism & that it's a full length running album from the very realistic relateable perspective of the average hood kid, i can appreciate that in the era of fast food music.

However, as an execution it's not good, great beats? Not at all. Kdots delivery is just weak. It's no surprise that he couldn't get on in the mid 2000's where charisma was in thing. This generation is so desperate for actual legends, classics and movements that they will champion anything, especially lyrcists, but yall forgot everything else that makes a dope M.C and Kendrick is severely lacking in many of those departments

Those are my ratings in the context of the album.

As just songs peer pressure, good kid, poetic justice, and real don't cut it standing alone honestly.
You really like Compton as a stand alone track? I felt like it was just awful double-time rambling.

this is another thing. do yall skim through music tho? i gotta know, since people act like this was the most recent lyrical album... just shows that you skim through music instead of actually listening to it, based on the name of the artist.

The verses were well written. I mean

Sherane
bytch, dont kill
Money trees
Maad city
sing about me/dying

is why this is a classic.

I think the impact GKMC had was to recalibrate the standard of good music. At a particular time, everyone was just doing whatever the fukk they wanted but after that album, people are a whole lot more critical of music and originality and content etc. Its particularly true for all the "new artists". So while Yeezus and MCHG had little impact because they did not match their earlier works, all other new artists are being so critically scrutinised because nothing has lived up to that standard yet and people dont care MUCH about those artists. J cole, Asap Rocky, Hopsin, Krit are probably the best examples of rappers who without Kendrick's blitz of a year period (not just GKMC) would have been huge drake like superstars but arent.

with that said, I'm getting old but gkmc is probably one of my favorite albums of the 2000s

I keep seeing this so I need to ask. Exactly what albums has GKMC directly influenced since it's release date? And stop it b, Cole was not on the path to reach Drake like levels before Kendrick came through. Not even gonna mention those other nikkas cause you must be trolling.

A lot.

I just don't have the time to write a book so I'll just give you one example:

"YG To Chronicle Life As Bad 'Kid' In Kendrick Lamar's m.A.A.d city" - MTV
