The song does a great job of wrapping up the story Kendrick just told, but that track is just too sunshine and lollipops for me, breh. I feel like I'm listening to the musical equivalent of running through a meadow full of blooming flowers and cuddly animals, my dude. Feel like I'm frolicking and shyt You just took me through an emotional rollercoaster, got nikka damn near in tears after Sing About Me/Dying of Thirst and you throw this on?

Real reminds me of Little Brother's When Everything is New


except they didn't have us going through that rollercoaster before that. Real does a great job of closure it just feels out of place. The end with the voicemails is some powerful shyt, though

I can see where both sides are coming from. The fact that most mainstream hip hop is terrible plays a major part but if i was an 18 or 17 year old, I'd probably consider it a classic. It's a very good album with songs that you'll be able to play years from now. The only problem I have with it (right now), is, it's played out for me. I don't listen to it at all (now). When it came out, it grew on me and I saw what other people saw. I'll probably appreciate it more in a few more years, mostly for nostalgia, but I'll appreciate it.

Kendrick Lamar's voice is pretty weird and not so great. That's why it's filtered in crazy ways all the time. He filtered meaningfully on gkmc though. A lot of the time it seems purposeful to the meaning of the songs sorta turning a weakness into a strength. But with his voice being so weird and subpar and gkmc still a debatable classic is a testament to the albums strength. But if someone says they can't listen to him cuz his voice is fukked I can't say I blame them.
