The biggest gap between cultures is time, not space. There we see devastating stagnation. The youngest players are burning unsupervised hours on Roblox. The oldest are in Odinsleep until a single-player blockbuster catches their eye. The middle of the pack, getting the hang of disposable income, are discovering other ways to spend. The biggest players in the industry are still waiting for this entire block to gravitate toward the next Fortnite or Grand Theft Auto, but year after year this just looks more like wishful, harmful thinking.

If there is a crash on the horizon, it’s likely Nintendo will be the ones walking away from it the least scathed (again). Games like Mario, Zelda and Mario Kart truly are widely beloved across generations, demographically pliable. The company has long understood the importance of trying to redefine what the experience of playing a game can be.

With the whole Microsoft thing the problem is and always was that this is big tech stepping into the realm of creators with no creative passion or mission beyond making money behind them.

With Sony yeah it's a business but at some level there was a creative passion for gaming. Not as much anymore with all the live service slop they desperately want to churn out but in the past there was. With Nintendo the creative passion is obvious.

Microsoft never had that. It was always rich guys with a limited to no understanding of gaming throwing money at it hoping to generate more money. They'd often buy companies and the top talent would bleed out as they left.

It was always going to end this way. Now the person in charge is more fitting of Microsoft's aspirations for the division. I hope they go all out on AI and see what it can get them. I don't have the hangups over AI like so many others do. Embrace technology.

The truth that people still won't accept is that the consumers are the cause of this. People keep whining about innovation and something different but every month we see that the top selling games are GAAS. Even looking at PlayStations financials they said that 40 percent of their revenue came from micro transactions from GAAS. So what are these companies supposed to do? Ignore the numbers.

Hell the GTA 5 is still one of the top selling games every month and it released on the PS3 and people are constantly playing GTA online and buying shark cards. They had no incentive to rush and push out GTA 6. Bungie is releasing Marathon next month and they're facing backlash because their Destiny 2 players want them to still release content for it and it's a 10 yr old game. People say they want new games and they hate the way the gaming industry is going. But they keep buying 2K, Madden, COD every year. If you actually wanted change you would do so with your wallets....but most people are comfortable and being fake mad is more important than actually doing the work :yeshrug:

Because they’re getting their fix through live service games. And that’s just the competition within that particular industry.

Also gotta compete with the 15 other streaming services for your dollar/time

Industry has been in a slump for a while now. Nintendo is shook over switch 2 sales in the west. They lost momentum a lot faster than they expected and still no sign of any of their heavy hitters.

It’s been 10 years since the last official 3D Mario game. That’s never happened before. Shyt is spooky
