That's the thing though. Its difficult to make a general statement that gaming has lost its appeal when a lot of us simply have much more going on.
What you just described supports the statement that as adults progress in life and take on more responsibilities gaming begins to be pushed on the back burner more and more.
Not even really disagreeing with you on this one though. I just think there's a little more to it.

Of course there is more to it, what you bolded is just one of many examples for why that is. All the reasons I gave, and more reasons I still haven't touched on contribute to it. But to act like gaming is in a golden age is false. Once great franchises are now just milked for yearly profits. The gamer population is saturated with too many fanboys and the developers are catering to them. There are more woman gamers than men today. Fatboi1 went to Japan to play sailor moon vita bruh, shyt has changed...

It's getting more pricey and games are on this yearly rotation which I don't really like. There are still a lot of great games out there but I can relate to a lot of points y'all are saying. I was spoiled growing up on mods/custom maps.

Switching up genres can help if you got the patience. FPS genre is hit it or miss for me so I started playing Civ V and I'm hooked more than ever.
