Is it Guru in the vocals or not?
I bought The Owner back in 2003 with no knowledge of Gang Starr just for the song "Right Where U Stand".
I was hypnotized and still listen to the album 16 f**** year later with the same spark.

It is definitely Guru!

This entire project is crisp, Business or Art beat is to me

This sounds both dated and fresh if that makes any sense. Boom bap in the purest sense of the word with some Premo beats that sound 20+ years old. BUT a lot of the subject matter and lines from Guru speak to me as someone in his mid 30s. Looking forward to the 2nd project for sure and this will probably make my Top 10 list.

It doesn’t sound dated to me at all, neither The rhymes or the beats. It’s not all that boom bap-ish either. Preme went from full samples loops to partial to cutting indiscriminate pieces and sounds and patching it together. He now adds more musical elements to his beats to compliment the patchwork sampling and the drums. Anyway, great album. I’ll be ready for number two in a year but I swear I wished he would remix some of the deep cuts from the early albums and make them classics to go along with the classics they already have.

Preemo is the goat. Hands down. This album is like Jordan coming back in 2019 and getting a ring. Solidifying his spot on top of the throne.

The production on this is way better than Phryme.


Just going from memory the beats on here are way more polished than Phryme 1.

phryme 2 is very underwhelming, It felt like Royce was drinking again with some juvenile wordplay.

I was skeptical about this album or the idea of a new gang Starr due to his recent work with Royce but hearing Loyalty I was legit shocked. Didn’t think preem had it in him.
