Listening to it again this morning...continues to sound better each time :wow:
The fact it came out of nowhere makes it so much better too. They legit had me thinking that the Cole featured joint was the only thing they recorded.

Edit: yo @ajnapoleon we were just talking about Pete Rock and Preem in that new Benny/DZA project thread. You probably know a lot this new Gang Starr album but if not then give it a listen. It’s really dope

I listened to his Hot 97 interview this morning. He said a few joints were obviously in good condition and easy for him to build beats and songs around. He said others were random verses but not full song concepts yet, so on those he had to figure out the best ideas for hooks, and whether or not to make it a shorter song or use a feature to flesh it out.

He also said most of the verses were from 2005/2006 and that none of the verses were that dated in terms of references. He said the “...if Big and Pac we’re still here...” line for example on Bad Name is something Guru would’ve still likely said even now.

The whole interview is a good listen.

They ask him about Group Home and he says what I’ve always suspected. That he’s way more interested in how people sound. The voice as a musical instrument—-way more than whether or not someone has bars on top of bars. He also has some cool stories about RZA, Biggie, Jeru, and lifting weights with Suge
:dead:

Timefram the lifting weights with Suge?

Cause I think he's not talking about Suge Knight but Big Shug right?

Word! As soon as heard Lil Dap on my speakers, I had to go dig up my old Group Home cds.

Malachi is wack, but Dap is so underrated to me. His voice has always been ill and grimy. In a way Malachi's basic ass flow and voice set up Dap even more because he actually has skills and mic presence

I'm loving the press for this album. I want to hear more from Preme on the process. I also want to hear what else he has in the stash because he had said in the past that he had his hands on stuff before he got the vocals from Solaar.

I like Malachi on Word from the Nutcracker. he ain't no special MC but their voices were dope on the Livin Proof album. I also hope to see new pics of the Gang Starr Foundation in the liner notes.
