This is the problem with idiots and politics. If a person doesn't know or care about a situation, it isn't a fukking virtue for a candidate for the presidency to have the same level of knowledge as the average person on the street. People complain that politicians are awful, but have the lowest possible standards for them:scust:
Ironically it's how Bush got elected...people felt like they could relate to him

The city of Aleppo hasn't been a big deal in most of the world ever. ISIS? Syria? Assad? Sure. Aleppo? No.

Why are there higher standards for Gary?

This is starting to feel like a hit job.

This. The media loves to do this kind of shyt. I think it's a bad look, especially when most people don't take you seriously in the first place, but it's far from disqualifying. What's important regarding this is his position on Syria itself.

And then he followed up his appearance with this quick post disaster interview:

:jbhmm:Why would you vote a person to the Presidency who was less informed than you are? :jbhmm: These people are going to make life and death decisions hourly. If we are going to give them the power to act in our name, then the least they could do is take the job seriously and inform themselves about world affairs, econ, etc.

We hold our politicians to too high of a standard and expect them to know everything, which is why we have so many liars that can't give a straight answer. They spin, rather than admit lack of knowledge.

That said, you should know Aleppo. That's bad.

This is why I said I couldn't vote for him - fukking stoner probably blanked out.

:dafuq:

Or maybe he just took a page out of the Trump playbook and was trying to get himself media attention, so more people know him.

I'm thinking this was a gotcha question. I think he can spin this. He did The View appearance and got back on track. Even though I'm not a Libertarian I do want a 3rd voice in the debates. The American people atleast deserve that much.

Aleppo is not an event. If you asked Gary Johnson what his position was on the Syrian Civil War, I'm sure his answer would have been far more knowledgeable. Or at least as knowledgeable (read: politically correct) as the other major candidates.

:what: How the fukk could he have a knowledgeable position on the Syria war when he's never even heard of the city that's at the epicenter of it all? Him not knowing what Aleppo is proves he's simply not abreast of the situation at all, and thus any answer he gives would just be regurgitated non-interventionis/libertarian talking points devoid of facts and specifics pertaining to the situation.

You would expect a presidential candidate would be aware of the basics about a civil war in a geopolitical flashpoint that killed a few hundred thousand people out of intellectual curiosity at least, to say nothing of humanitarian concern and national security.

Tell that :wrist: ass dude to put down the stickiest of the icky and read Reuters or something.

Thats cuz it was a hit job. You couldnt have worded it any better. Its typical of gotcha politics and gotcha media with extra spin to ensure their mark is humiliated. Most people, even with a working knowledge of current events on an international level would scratch their head if asked about Aleppo. Syria, Isis, Assad, etc. on the other hand, people would respond accordingly. To me this is yet another example of media having far exceeded its purpose. The conspiracy side of me cant help but wonder if he was starting to get a little too close to that 15% poll figure than the media felt comfortable with.

All he had to say was

"With respect to what?" or "I don't think I understand the question"

That would have been farrrrrrrrr better than what happened, which was that clearly, the man did not have a clue.

If he had said my previous two suggestions, he could have easily spun it into a "media hit job" when really it was'nt a gotcha question, it wasn't a trap, the man simply doesn't have a clue and that's all there is to it.
