All differences aside, don’t you feel this is a betrayal? 40 day shutdown to end with total capitulation?
I don’t feel betrayed by the 40ish senators who held the line. I’m not blaming them for a couple of bums and Chuck not keeping them in line.

I do realize my feelings don’t represent the every day person especially as every media outlet will say “dems caved”.

I said in here earlier I agree with dragging the people that caved and at the same time I realize everyone on here complaining is privileged enough for this to be internet fodder for us and not life and death.

Edit: and yes I know the usual “they took the fall for others” reports are going to come out like they always do

Again at the end of the day you can complain or start working to replace them

Schumer absolutely agrees with the people who folded, if he didn't he wouldn't lead with " do what you want voting". Hes an ineffective weak leader who completely capitulated to the republicans. He needs to be out immediately, we need to primary all these senators irregardless of the risk. This is indefensible stuff in this time period

does anything even stick in American politics anymore, like the Dem bloc that voted for this looks like doofuses but will voters actually punish anybody for it, the looming economic downturn will be the dominant story throughout 2026 that the longest shutdown ever will probably be a quick forethought by summer.

None of them are up for election in 2026.

It’s a sick game that the Schumer and leaders are playing on the Dem voters.

They probably went to the bar and had a nice laugh at their voters.

As far as I understand none of the 8 are up for election in 2026. So they are hoping we forget about this betrayal.

But, there is no mistake this was a cynical House of Cards play with players who dong have much to lose.

What I can’t figure out is why they shut down the government in the first place?

Only the politically active will remember and act accordingly. Everyone else will be focused on whatever country Trump is bombing and who ice is illegally detaining before midterms

I don't think they actually planned to be in shutdown this long and ran for the first serious chance to get out of it lol.
Yeah the constituents didn’t know what the end goal was and the leadership didn’t either besides “fighting” and making up for a bad call (earlier this year) like a NBA ref

Republicans paid the price for this on Tuesday but, your larger point is correct. This will have no bearing on the next elections

Ultimately the blame is still on Trump and Republicans who chose to go down this path and hurt the American people not the Democrats who couldn't stop them.

Not for nothing but a lot of you guys advocated for this and Democrats don't control the WH, House, or Senate. Weak dem this and weak dem that just really misses the mark.
