Yes. For most people their retirement accounts are their only involvement in the markets. Anyone who has shares through a brokerage can sell (brokerage fees, capital gains) or take a loan (interest) or withdrawal (penalty and capital gains) from their 401K/Pension at any time.

Don’t get me started on how many companies (large and small) are owned by private equity firms. Industries that aren’t affected by the tariffs will have layoffs so the private equity investors save as much money as possible.
