I'm back fukking with these credit cards. :snoop: I notice that these cards are getting aggressive with the cash back. I just got AMEX Blue. You get 6% cash back on groceries, 6% on streaming sites, 3% on gas. Then when you spend 1k in the first three months, you get a $250 statement credit. On top of that, You get crazy dumb deals like if you spend $200 on a certain hotel you get $50 statement credit. $5 back if you spend $10 or more in your neighborhood. The deals are endless. This card is dangerous. :sadcam:

But on the real I'll be responsible and pay it when I get paid. The worst thing you is pay it at the end of the month. I still don't think credit cards are a good idea at all. You have to be disciplined. After being over 30k in credit card debit in my 20's, I am more than disciplined now.
I usually pay my statement at the due date but a couple cards came through with 0% transfer offers for a year so I took them and bought a bunch of stuff. I don't charge anything to those 2 cards as I'm paying them down. I will have them paid off before the end of the year.

If you're undisciplined then it's probably best not to use credit.

On Juneteenth I paid off my undergrad loans of a lil over 70k that I had been working on since '08, I'm pretty proud to have killed that one off :ehh: I still owe a healthy amount for my grad loans, but I'm on student loan forgiveness for working at a non profit so God willing that will be paid off in about 8 years.

I'm currently planning on paying my car lease off next month, I really want to minimize all of my monthly payments and I want to start going really hard on the car.

I love this thread ya'll :salute:

Naw I can't wait till the end. It's a psychological thing. I pay my statement every time a get paid. Like half of the statement each paycheck. This has worked well for me.

If this card didn't have so many deals I would just have my one card that has only utilities on it:manny:

Most people aren't displined with credit cards and they know it. I bet they be so pissed that they can't get interest off me:mjlol:

true to an extent but credit card companies make money from merchant transactions every time you use it.

They’re not dumb. They run and own the game......

I’ve been debt free for about 2 months now.

Getting that weight off my back is doing wonders for my mindstate.

I feel like an actual adult now with unlimited financial power.
No mortgage or student loans?

I've been in debt pretty much my whole adult life. Dropped out of college after two and half semesters and owed about 8k in student loans. Was working a bunch of shytty jobs and got a credit card. Couldn't keep up my bills so I started racking debt on that too. Before I joined the military my CC debt wasn't too bad owing a little less than 2k and I actually paid it off a few months after I got to my first base. I then proceeded to get into more debt by buying a car (15k at 9% APR) which I couldn't afford mostly because of the crazy amount I had to pay for insurance (370/month) due to being a new driver. I got into all types of debt maxing out that original credit card, opening up other credit cards and running up the balances on those, and financing dumb shyt. I knew I had to pay that shyt off eventually since I knew I didn't want to stay in the military but I didn't have discipline and when I get depressed I get into this fukk it mindset.

I got lucky and got an assignment to Korea and took that as an opportunity to get my shyt together. I had very low expenses and got even luckier financially with COVID. I leave Korea next month and I have since paid off the hotel I financed last year, 3 out of four credit cards, and my car. All I have left is my student loans(5.7k) and my oldest credit card(3.2k) the latter I should pay off by the end of this year or sooner. After that, the last thing I need to do before I get out of this Air Force is building decent-sized emergency savings which I would have plenty of time to do.
