I have good and bad stories about family visits.

I was seeing this girl, and I was cool with her female cousin. They would always tell me how much fun family functions were out in the country.

I'm always down for good food and drink. Long story short I show up and I'm the darkest person in the whole house. Not a big deal really, what really made it awkward was when her aunt showed up. It was her aunt who was like 3 yrs older than her. The aunt I used to bang 3 or 4 years before I met the girl I was currently dating.

Of course the aunt is the ranchet one in the family. She played me too, on some " Oh you ain't go speak??"

You're probably an extrovert cuz most of them think like this. My wife is one. They can't relate to not wanting to be around people all the time and think being quiet means something's wrong with you.

Btw, on some real ish... Wifey and I been together 10+ years.

She's got a huge family, who has gatherings every other weekend at a minimum. They all mostly live near us.

I have a funky, mostly dysfunctional family who's scattered all over the place, who might get together once a year at Thanksgiving.

We used to have a power struggle on me not wanting to go to something every weekend because I didn't grow up like that. It took a lot of communication and understanding to get to the point we're at now.

Now, she'll only ask me to go if it's really important to her, and I'll almost always say yes. But 4 out of 5 times, she's going alone with the kids and I'm at home enjoying the SILENCE.
