My final year-end review
Ghostdeini the great has been one of Hip Hop’s greatest storytellers since his first official solo album, the aptly named Iron Man. But it was his second album, Supreme Clientele, that made him a bonafide rap legend. 25 years after such a glorious and heralded achievement, Tony Starks returns with the official sequel; and with it a welcome return to form. Spread out over 25 tracks that span a timeline of 20 years, Ghostface pieces together an entertaining spectacle evocative of the most thrilling (and hilarious) blacksploitation films of the mid-70’s. Ghost is more spry lyrically than he’s been in years, crafting stories about robbery capers, extravagant court cases, gorgeous women the likes of which would put Pam Grier to shame, and sexual conquests. Bringing his Wu-Tang brethren Method Man, Raekwon, and GZA along for the ride, SC2 is a fully realized extension of what makes a great Ghostface album in 2025. Though its not perfect, the highs certainly outshine the lows and Ghost proves that with proper motivation, he is an Avenger worthy of both Thor’s hammer, Captain America’s shield, and yes, Iron Man’s incredible armor.
