No reason to play a superstar, heavy minutes, in a playoff series, after managing his load all throughout the year in preparation for the playoffs?
Typically, Kerr is criticized for not playing his stars enough, and relying too much on the second unit. This is about the first time I've ever heard him being criticized for the opposite. Which really speaks to what I'm saying even more: folks are finding any reason NOT to give him credit. It's completely unfair to blame him for KD's injury. Both Draymond and Klay played similar minutes.
Game 1 was decided by four points
Game 2 was decided by six points
Game 3 was decided by five points
Game 4 was decided by four points
Game 5 was decided by five points
And although some of those games were decided before garbage points lessened the margins; KD's contributions in the games he played in were still needed. It's not like the Warriors were blowing out the Rockets, and Kerr was still playing him when the game was out of reach. Jerebko, Bell, and McInnie weren't offering anything when they did get on the floor, and the Warriors were forced to go with more smaller lineups due to the personnel that the Rockets were running out, so it only made sense Durant played heavy minutes.
Imagine the backlash if he played the second unit more, and KD less, which directly led to the Warriors losing that series?
Injuries happen, particularly in an environment like the playoffs where players are hitting their max in every facet of play, and sometimes it's not the fault of anyone, especially for a team that's played more postseason games (over 4-5 years) than any other team in history.
