I would love to know how old the posters responding on this thread are, to have some context...

Snoop was the biggest artist in any genre on planet Earth from '92-'94, that is almost non-debatable - like old people didn't even say Rap, it was "Stop listening to that Snoop Doggy Dogg sh*t"...

But after Pac got to Death Row, he was MOST DEFINITELY bigger than Snoop in those 2 years before he died...I mean I don't even think that's debatable...

I am 37 years old.

Snoop was bigger from his introduction but be real.. Dear mama was a huge hit and the album debut at #1 and was nominated for a grammy if I recall. The momentum from that album built going into his inevitable signing and the hype was HUGE.. . He took what dre and snoop did and went to another level. At the time of his death he legitimately was a bigger star than snoop ever was, one of the biggest on the planet.

Exactly. The murder case & the Time Warner dispute slowed down Snoop & Death Row's momentum something serious. Remember Dogg Food got pushed back months.

Pac getting out and joining them was the key. He became the biggest on Death Row and Rap in 1996. He had the charisma, controversy AND hits. Snoop didn't recover until 5 years later.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Hard to say because 93-95 were snoops for sure but the murder case really slowed him down on a number of levels including having issues with his label and rushing the Doggfather album. By that time Tupac surpassed him in popularity.
It’s not hard to say. From 95 on Pac was the bigger star. The shyt aint really debatable honestly. Anyone who tells u otherwise is lying. Or has a hate for either one in either direction. Snoop was THAT nikka from 92-94. In 95? It shifted. There’s a REASON Pac going to Death Row was such a big deal.

Dear Mama wasn't a hit? yall say some dumb ass shyt.

be illiterate brehs. :snoop: fukk did I say Dear Mama wasnt a hit? :what:

I have no dog in this fight. I love both. like @kingofnyc said....when Snoop hit with Whats My Name, Gin and Juice, Doggy Dogg World, it was nothing like it. but really, yall must be forgetting about those Chronic singles. those were really Snoop singles. the point Glasses was trying to make was that Pac career went to another level on the Row because he benefited from what Dre and Snoop had built. he was already a superstar yes, but tha Row put him in another stratosphere.....and Suge was a huge part of that also.

Iovine was fed up with Pac and likely wasnt going to put that push back into him so he was already looking to dump him because of all the trouble he was getting in to.

to sum it up...and if anyone has these quotes please post....Pac had said something along the lines of Dre was causing Death Row to be a sinking ship and Dre responded by saying nikka :gucci: if it wasnt for me there would be no fukkin ship.

Go back and look at Death Row's 1995 output. The only album they dropped was Dogg Food on Halloween.

Snoop was HUGE with Doggystyle & Murder Was The Case but by 1996 that was Pac's label. Look at how disappointing Snoop's Doggfather album was. Makaveli blew it out the water.

all I am saying is, the foundation was laid for Pac to come there and go to the next plateau. it was a superstar joining the ranks of an even bigger superstar, who he later surpassed, I didnt deny this. I said it in my initial post. this would be akin to Jay going over to Bad Boy when BIG was clearly the bigger star and had helped build the foundation. doesnt mean Jay wasnt a star in his own right.
