I don't blame Trump directly. I blame the corporate profit obsessed mentality....which happens to be a hallmark of the right

There can be a balance between profit/people that would be more beneficial to society. The right fails to grasp the humanity side of it.
Agreed, but there has also been a real consumer shift away from sedans, and it isn’t the result any president.

I remember the “blame Obama” hysteria now it’s “blame trump”...
shyts comical.

Donald Trump campaigned for president on a promise to Michigan auto workers that “If I’m elected, you won’t lose one plant, you’ll have plants coming into this country, you’re going to have jobs again, you won’t lose one plant, I promise you that.”

:ehh:

Donald J. Trump
(APPLAUSE) And if Ford and the other ones haven't started building their plant, they'll be back. Believe me. Before they start building their plant. Believe me. But the polls have been great. So what happened is Michigan hasn't been won in many, many years, decades. And I said, well wait a minute, why aren't I doing well in Michigan? They said, you are. You're even. I said, even? Even? Why am I even? See my people, because Michigan hasn't been won in decades, they thought even was good. I don't think even's good. I'm going to bring your jobs back folks. Hillary doesn't have clue. And she's going to have bigger problems than bringing your jobs back. I'll tell you.

:mjlol: The $1B in Steel tariffs that GM has to pay clearly had no influence on the decision to cut the factories out now. Was this decision likely on the cards for GM to make since they haven't recovered from the Sedan market collapsing? Sure, but you have to be a certified sucka to think that $1B out of a $3.5B staggering blow didn't contribute to that in any way.
right. They can afford to pay tariffs when they are making cars that sell. But because they aren't making car that sell they can't afford it anymore.

So their problem is not paying tariffs, their problem is making shytty cars that no one wants. Funny how the other manufacturers are able to survive paying tariffs.

The fact that so many are trying to pin this to Trump is just providing an excuse for GM to use as a copout for a shytty business plan.

And ppl standing up for Billion dollar corporations that are taking away jobs from workers just for some political BS is pretty pathetic.

He wrote several checks on the campaign trail he had no chance of cashing:yeshrug:no argument there.

He isnt the cause of this restructuring though.

Don't think anyone is saying he is the cause.

These tarrifs are to GM what raising minimum wage is to fast food restaurants.

that's not really a great analogy considering ppl were buying big macs before the raise and after at pretty much the same rate. the product didn't change.

It would be a fair analogy if mcdonalds sales were declining due to them not competing with current markets trends before the min wage increase came in resulting in them have to cut back on certain menu items.

But that isn't the case.

here we just have a shytty run company that has relied on name (and bailouts) and ignoring market trends.

If I say it's Trump's fault then it's Trump's fault.

He campaigned on and repeatedly said these jobs would stay, and more would be coming back.

The nikka lied . It's his fault.

:yeshrug:

When noticeable job losses happen the people in the white house tend to take some of the blame whether it's fair or not. Even GM themselves is pinning this on Trump. Why? likely because in their view why not?, they got their tax cut and know all he's gonna do is get his twitter fingers on and lie some more. When you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.
