When noticeable job losses happen the people in the white house tend to take some of the blame whether it's fair or not. Even GM themselves is pinning this on Trump. Why? likely because in their view why not?, they got their tax cut and know all he's gonna do is get his twitter fingers on and lie some more. When you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.
they are gonna pin it on him because they know suckers will buy it.

GM was supposed to shut down three plants in Ontario in 2014, but TEMPORARILY extended it to 2016 for two plants (while still shutting down one) to stay alive to continue to stubbornly build the Buick Regal, Chevy Impala and the Cadillac XTS.
GM deal promises new vehicle for Oshawa plant | The Star

this article also provides more context on the bigger situation, which also mentions the consolidated plant was actually supposed to shut down in 2012.
GM scraps plan to close Oshawa plant in 2014 as demand for new vehicles grows

But those letting this shytty ass company play partisan politics with you are playing you all.

fukk GM.

right. They can afford to pay tariffs when they are making cars that sell. But because they aren't making car that sell they can't afford it anymore.

So their problem is not paying tariffs, their problem is making shytty cars that no one wants. Funny how the other manufacturers are able to survive paying tariffs.

The fact that so many are trying to pin this to Trump is just providing an excuse for GM to use as a copout for a shytty business plan.

And ppl standing up for Billion dollar corporations that are taking away jobs from workers just for some political BS is pretty pathetic.
You can't tell the company what cars to build. That's Communism remember?

To say the tariffs don't play a part is foolish when you're dealing with margins. They might be willing to take a smaller loss, that doesn't mean they'll take an increased loss on floundering models. It's no longer worth the trouble.

And Trump can't criticize any company about being run incompetently, that's gonna be laughable.

This is funny because the Jeep plant here is hiring like crazy. My boy got a programming job there last week. Hiring production and salary. Also their independent part supplier plant is hiring like crazy.

But when you are in yhe transitioning process. This is what happens.

Trump threatening to pull those subsidies. Hmmmmm, I can't hate on companies being punished for laying off workers to boost stock while their CEO gets paid 20 million a year. I know Trump isn't doing it for honest reasons but I'll take it.

Not understanding the partisan arguments in here. GM can be a poorly run organization and the tariffs can be negatively impacting its business at the same time:beli:

This is true. But, Trump loves taking credit for any little positive development in the economy, so let the Orange fukk boy get raked over the coals for this one.

no one in particular is telling them what cars to build. However, the market on the other hand, is telling them what cars they will not buy, and GM just doesn't seem to care.

And these issues were announced BEFORE the tariffs came in to place, but yet ppl are using "tariffs" as some kind of copout for GM (despite the other automakers still moving). So instead of digging their heels in the ground and being stubborn and sticking with floundering models, they should have been moving to what the market is actually aiming towards. this issue is SOLELY on GM.

But I really don't care what Trump says about GM, the fact is that GM HAS been the most incompetent automaker over the last 20 years.

This is NOT a partisan issue. Stop making it one.

the problem is ppl wasting their efforts yelling at Trump and letting GM get away with this BS. Ppl lost jobs, small businesses took a hit, communities are in trouble now, because of GM's ineptitude and stupidity. But all ppl want to do is point fingers at Trump and make this political.

WE need to stop with these easy copouts for these billion dollar corporations.

I said in here. Let the political theater play in the media and in Congress, but dudes arguing here about this in this context are wasting their time.

If you agree that GM is a shyt company, then them scaling back their operations in areas that are not working and trying to restructure to be more efficient should be a positive development. Them continuing on this path is not helping the country and will lead to more people's jobs depending on government subsidies for industries that might not be viable long term anyway. Handing GM a blank check to employee a few thousand people for another 10 years doesn't solve any of these problems.

yup these corporations have PR experts available to them that are good at their job unlike the company in need of the PR. it's how the health insurers tried to blame every ridiculous premium increase they were trying to sneak in on obamacare.

This. If you take credit for when companies do well, you have to take the blame for when companies start cutting jobs. :umad:

But based on their supply chain, those factories were dedicated to the failing models. If they're efficient at the factories making the vehicles that do sell, they have no reason to keep the failed ones running.

GM could damn near argue they've been doing charity in those communities if they've been running operations that lose money.

So either way, those factories would be closed and those people are shyt out of luck. It is Trump's problem if he decided to make promises about shyt he had no business doing.

When you promise shyt and when the opposite happens, just go :yeshrug:, sometimes you get blamed.
