But you don’t have too. I don’t. I’ve had credit for 9+ years now and I’ve never paid interest on my credit card. Don’t spend more than you have and you’re good. Discipline.

I work in the banking industry and it’s amazing how concepts that seem so simple to me are impossible to others. This isn’t rocket science. It’s basic financial literacy.
Most people don’t have that discipline but good that you do. You are still the exception though

I didn't find out until a few months ago that you could avoid interest payments if you pay the balance down every month. I thought rewards just balanced out the interest.

I get the feeling that a lot of the folks who commented in this thread who are against credit cards think the same thing you once did.

I find it hard to believe that all the expert credit card users in here are so special. They are essentially saying that they are getting over on the credit card company and getting cash back and rewards even though we know that you have to over spend to get rewards and cash back. The cognitive dissonance kicks in when you spend $1000 to get back a $10 reward which sets off the pleasure center in your brain.

I think a lot of people could learn a lot by really researching what we’re doing here with credit cards. It obviously requires being fiscally responsible but it’s easier than ever to do the credit card game. Apps/notifications means you set it up so there’s never any interest charged. Mine is set up I get notifications and alerts on basically every transaction, every balance limit exceeded, upcoming due dates, minimum payment due to avoid interest, etc.

And I used to be hardcore against credit cards. That dumb Ramsey approach. But the wealthy utilize credit and leverage to build more.

my fidelity visa alone has literally put tens of thousands of dollars of rewarded money into my brokerage account that I’ve used to invest and make even more money with. How is that not a win all around? Lol. And that’s just one of my cards. Free vacations, extended warranty, roadside assistance, extra rental insurance, etc. it’s all a win.

I think most people knew that, it’s just some don’t have the discipline to swipe reasonably and ability to pay it in full when they don’t.

Paying the card in full every few weeks WORKS.

HOWEVER.

Bragging about credit card rewards and cash back like its some hidden treasure and talking down to nikkas

You doing your thing but you a consumer. I’m a producer so I can get the credit card company to pay me just to get more customers like you.

exactly
The credit card is no different than a debit card with security if you use it correctly.

I've been using an Amazon Chase Visa card for the last 8 years, 5% credit back on all Amazon purchases and a $100 gift card for signing up (might be more today.) I pay it off weekly and have never paid a penny in interest.

I only use my debit card at Winco where they don't accept credit cards and pass along the 2% merchant fee to the customers via lower prices. Fair enough, I guess. :ld:
