On a macro scale its true though. Wealth/income/opportunity inequality is driven by other means that can't be fixed by wealth transfers

This is a one way street. The concept of labor in itself is a wealth transfer. The concept of consumers is a wealth transfer.

This "no zero sum" bullshyt only applies to labor and the consumer, never to those in control.

Labor and consumption are not wealth transfers. They are voluntary exchanges. Inequality fixes through taxation are transfers. Money is flowing from one party to another, involuntarily, with nothing being given back to the parties paying. And the underlying issues driving the inequalities aren't being addressed. Demanding higher taxes on the rich feels good because its simple and easy but it's not really a rational solution to the problem of inequality.

It's a very rational solution that has worked wonders before. It just can't be the only solution.

Where?

Don't say the Scandanavian countries... because there, EVERYONE pays a lot of taxes. Someone there making ~$40K at least half their income in taxes. Even if we were able to put that money to the same good use they do, do you really see the avg American being willing to do that? That would be damn near tripling the tax burden for a lot of Americans without necessarily an appropriate return back in services........................

Dont get me wrong, I would love extensive public programs like the Scandinavians have, but we have to get a lot of our ducks in a row first. Iceland put bankers in prison :demonic: All of those countries run balanced budgets. High key we are not ready for that level of public service.

If I move my wallet from my back pocket to front pocket thats a wealth transfer :lolbron:

No

Wealth transfer is the forced movement of money from one group to another with no services or goods being rendered in return. So consumption and labor are by various measures not wealth transfers. Neither are taxes assigned to specific services and programs.

this quote is from an upcoming podcast with Adam Carolla called "take a knee" it's a premium podcast so you have to pay for it, he interviewed the RZA as well

http://theadamcarollashow.libsyn.com/podcast/category/Self-Help

the first episode with Norman Lear is free on the adam carolla podcast so you can understand the format/intention of the "take a knee" podcast. It's motivational in nature, and the crews one is supposed to be really good

What do you call the forced movement of deliberately underpaying labor ? What does the labor get in exchange for not being compensated?

You're arguing from a capitalist frame of reference. How does one exactly forego consumption and providing labor voluntarily in most of the societies on earth at this moment in time.
