I don't think Godfather is lying at all.

I just think it's very clear why The Rock was turned heel and put in The Nation, and it had a lot more to do with putting him on the path to becoming a star than getting veteran guidance.

Again, if he really needed guidance from veterans, he wouldn't need to be put in a storyline wrestling stable to get it. Young wrestlers get guidance from veterans all the time without being placed in their storylines.

So my guess is that Godfather is seeing things from a slightly biased and unrealistic viewpoint there.

But hey, he seems like a good dude and I like the interview.

No. When you're in a stable in wrestling, you travel EVERYWHERE together. Completely different then an old timer dropping knowledge on you when you're at the bar or back stage some shyt. The Rock used to travel everywhere with Mark Henry and Charles Wright. He said it out his own mouth.

And I co-sign everything Cherry Blossom said

The idea that THE MAIN reason The Rock was put in The Nation was that he needed veteran guidance is just silly.

Was it a nice side benefit? Sure. Was it an accident? Probably not.

But he was put in The Nation, first and foremost, because it was the best vehicle for a Rock heel turn and a strong push at the time. That's all I'm saying.

If Godfather thinks that veteran guidance was THE MAIN reason, he is incorrect.

Not lying, mind you. Just incorrect.

I don't really like the rock *shrugs shoulders* but i heard he was put in the nation cos he got hurt and when he came back they were figuring out what to do,so they put him in there, then he stole the promos in the
nation even while in the background with his animation and such and then thats when everything just took off for him and he became a mega star.think russo and ferrara(cant spell that fat fukks name) said on thier shoot with wade keller. They would know better than any of us.

Always funny.

Not that I believe dude has a reason to lie, but Shango was due for a long main event push, was offered a ton of money to be "Vincent," was set to return in '97 as an Attitude Era monster and was asked to babysit the Rock.

This muhfukka about say he bodyslammed the 800 pound Andre the Giant in front of 130,000 people just hours before he died :beli:

He was THIS CLOSE to being one of the biggest stars of all time on a handful of occasions. :pachaha:

Midcard matters more than we ever knew. :ohhh:

I don't see whats so hard to believe about the Rock being paired with the Godfather to provide some good insight into the business. In a cut throat biz like pro wrestling it's a wise move to pair a prospect like the Rock with a seasoned vet that can teach him the ropes back stage. Amazing how some Captain Save A Rocks refuse to even accept that much.

:wtf: We got some hatin'-ass nikkas up in here

Dude didn't really say anything that seemed questionable

- If Virgil had a shot at being with Hogan, then of course it's believable that Godfather had a shot. And looking at Virgil nowadays, I can definitely see him taking that low offer and fukking Godfather over in the process. I also don't think he was exaggerating about the amount he was going to get, either - WCW had paid a bunch of other lower-card wrestlers to hardly be used or to do anything at all

- All he said was he was supposed to be coming back in '97, but they nixed his gimmick idea because it was similar to Kane, who they obviously had bigger plans for. He didn't say shyt about him being a main-eventer like Kane. Gangrel wasn't a main-eventer either but he still had a decent, scary gimmick...Godfather was probably gonna get the same deal

- As for the Dwayne/Nation shyt....let's not forget that around that time, there were two certain long-haired fakkits who saw Dwayne's potential to be a GOAT and were like :wtb:, so they tried to fukk it up. Godfather might be embellishing with the "he was put in the group to protect him" part (I doubt that was the MAIN reason), but I can see that being one of the reasons - to keep him around nikkas who would give him better advice, and see through the backstage politics and bullshyt, which would eventually help him on his way up. And I wouldn't put it past certain people to try to fukk over Mark Henry either, even though he might not have been as big a threat

- I can DEFINITELY see Vince being a big fan of the Godfather gimmick. He gets to put a black man in a stereotypical role, PLUS hoes are getting airtime for less pay (as opposed to the official 'divas')

It's not about hating or that what he's saying really sounds far-fetched, it's just the continued hilarity of ex-wrestlers doing the "I was supposed to ____, but ____" interviews.

I was going to be a long-term main eventer, but Sid...
I was going to be Hogan's enforcer, but Virgil...
I was going to come back as Shango in 97, but Kane...
I was going to shave my head and drink beer, but Ringmaster...

The funny thing is this...if Vince wants you pushed to the top(Brock Lesnar, Cena), you're going to the top. There's no "putting him with this type of group" to succeed. Nah...that's not how that old Republican motherfukker operates:laugh: And the Nation was NOT that hot of a group before the Rock got there for them to be the IDEAL vehicle for him to succeed in Vince's system.

About the whole guidance thing, I want you all to remember something :

The WWE is a business. It's a job for these guys you see as stars. Everybody needs to start somewhere, and when you're new at a job, or things aren't going so well, your boss will usually pair you up with someone who's gonna help out, guide you and help instate the do's and dont's of the business. Not just in the WWE, but even at McDonald's for that matter.

With that said, it makes perfect sense. Team up 2-3 rookies with established, respect veterans and have them travel, train and work together every day. Simmons and Wright were both at that 'do not fukk with' status, so putting the new guys with them is a way of preceding them in and of itself. At that moment in time, both Simmons and Wright had so much knowledge to pass down.

Nothing outlandish about any of this.

:dead: @ the Virgil 'dumb motherfukker' comment.
