is one of the most ridiculous hiring practices i can think of. If a person is unemployed looking for a job more then likely their money is fukked up.....to dissqualify them on the basis that they aren't paying their bills, in that state, is ubsurd and debatably discriminatory.....

and i know nikkas going to come in here on the "well when they're potentially going to be dealing with money, it makes sense.." naw, it still doesnt........but even still, this credit requirement is not simply relegated to jobs where the applicant could/would be dealing with money. Example, I got a homeboy with a 90k degree who just got then ungot a job because of his credit..........which got fukked up in his time of unemployment.......

anyways, whats ur thoughts.......speak on it
your credit to an extent is a mark of your character. i'm all for it if they pull your actual credit report and look at it. medical bills should be excused but many of the people that run their credit into the ground aren't the kind of people you wanna rely on.

your credit is the measurable value of your name. if you're willing to take that and run it into the ground imagine what else you're capable of.

Eh, it's only a matter of time before this practice is banned with the exception of government jobs and positions that deal with cash regularly.
I know here in SC, there's been more support in the state legislature for a bill that disallows employers from making a credit check a contingent part of the hiring process, with very specific exceptions. I'm sure there are a number of states that have similar proposals in their respective legislatures, and there has to be a few states that have already passed bills regarding this.

The fact that credit checks even expanded to the degree it has now, is ridiculous no matter what merits of "character" one could argue to support it.

I'm just saying breh. :yeshrug:

I don't agree with it for all employment positions, but I can't deny that it says something about your character. There's a reason you won't co-sign a loan for someone you has bad credit: They aren't a trustworthy but they damn sure will front and act like they are though. :pachaha:

I really don't (minus health insurance). I'm sure you'd give your kids the world when you can/if you could though so don't knock it.. :heh:

My credit is in fairly good condition. And I pay all of my credit related bills myself.

I'm with you on the character part. I knew a wild dude a few years back. Always blowing his money on stupid stuff. He wanted me to co-sign for him to get a Trans Am and he said that when he got his income tax check, he would pay the car off. He did have 2 kids so I knew he was going to get a fat check in. I said no because he didn't seem like the type of person who would pay 1 bill with that much money in his hands.

Unfortunately, the people who have bad credit for good reasons (such as medical bills) are caught up in all of this. The companies don't care either. By the time you go the length of explaining to them why your credit is bad, they will know too much of your business and you wouldn't even want to work there anymore.

For a few jobs it actually makes sense. For example, I worked for a collection agency that did a credit check on us once a year and talk to you if they saw you way off from where you were before. They wouldn't actually come out and say it, but it was heavily implied that it could cost you you're job

this makes sense but i still disagree with the practice. This is seen by most as an easy button for HR....so now, instead of having to thoroly interviewing candidates to find out if they're the right person for the position they use this to do it for them...........when in actuallity it's not. Sure the process may have prevented a few ill-intented people from getting a job but im sure that the majority who were disqualified were not. That alone is reason enough to scrap the whole process.......

I think it says something about your character if you have bad credit:

- You spread yourself too thin
- Decision making skills aren't that great (if you aren't good with your own money...)
- Irresponsible
- Not good at planning

There are many exceptional cases though.

that's a lie breh, if i'm working a job for 10 years or even 4 or 5 years making 50k a year. Ok you might have a couple kids...MAYBE a small morgage. still payin off college loans...

you lose that job, how most people do nowadays due to downsizing u might be cool making the house payments and the day to day bills for a few. But the car payments, the expenses on the kids...and god forbid something happens to you or the kids where hospital bills come into play...and kids WILL get sick. And you still have to pay back loans. these are things people are dealing daily. You can be as responsible as the next man, but its not living beyond your means if you CONSISTENTLY had the means and they were SWIFTLY and UNEXPECTEDLY taken away.

Have you ever been laid-off or let go because the company just couldn't pay you? That's sudden and usually with minimal warning.

im sure they were using this logic too when they were basing it off race......

that doesnt make it right homie......

the main problem is how accepting people are of this discrimination...........thats why they are able to do it

I'm sure some of these people could come up with plenty of "justifications" for that too. :mjpls:

What kind of qualified person gets laid off from a job with good reviews, but can't find another job ANYWHERE? :mjpls:

Like I said, there are exceptions (medical expenses), but I think most people's problem with credit is a lack of good choices in spending.

Nope. I've always had jobs and my own income since I was 15. I actually turn down money from my parents.
