I thought the reason was that JJ Evans became very popular and John Amos believed it was buffoonery and was pushing the show into stupid places. So he started complaining so they got rid of him.

This is actually correct about Urkel and the OG Harriet Winslow.

Name a show today that is considered a quintessential "Black" sitcom or drama that focuses on Black family and issues

I'm generally curious. The only one I know of is The Carmicheal Show, which was cancelled

Blackish
Atlanta (a little bit. Focuses on Earn and Van attempting to co-parent their daughter)

Watching the documentary. They said writers had scripts of Black empowerment. And that they didn't want to give the lines to John Amos because he was a strong black man and instead wanted to give the pro black lines to the little boy Micheal cause "America would be able to digest it better" :wow:

Damn I never thought about that :mjcry:

My father hated good times because of JJs “dynamite”. He also felt like they intentionally made the “gay boy” pro black bc he was not a threat.
I grew up and was like :ohhh: damn pops
What character was gay on that show?

Yeah, they BEEN hating/ planning on getting rid of the image of the strong black male since MLK got assassinated. They didn't want another uprising or inspiration of the black population.
I'm not saying they succeeded but the amount of self hating c00nage these days is fukking disgusting.
