The other thing I've seen is that a lot of students have learned to cheat their way through school so they have the high grades. But when it's time to get into an interview their lack of true knowledge can shine through. Or for jobs where they don't have the chatGPT at their exposal and they risk getting exposed.

the notion that a degree itsel would get you a job is stupidity.
You need to know how to code, you add the degree to that, and being in a market that isn't flooded you will eat.

Plenty of 6figure jobs out here for coders.
Get into gitlab make a portfolio and realize you have to differentiate.

I was listening to a girl in one of my training classes a Lt, she was talking to a member of their team. We were doing basic scripting, not even coding, and she admitted that she had a CS degree but she didn't know how to code and she got help in school.

You want to know why these folks aren't getting jobs, the degrees are worthless.

a college that passes out degrees to people who can't actually do the job, eventually gets reputation for that. People look at your resume, see the college you went to and immediately dismiss you. Thats why the best and brightest always try to attend ivy league schools.
Thats also another thing to keep in mind. You can't just get a degree from anywhere and expect it to hold weight.

Nah I had folks from MIT , Yale in classes. They were good but the best hands on coders were tech school folks from my experience in training.

In terms of college the most competent coders were strangely Texas am

I'll trust your take. I don't know anything about coding was more speaking to degrees in general. but that makes sense,

That’s really it. People think that they’re supposed to take some classes as a teenager that are going to set them up financially for life, and it just doesn’t work like that. You have to keep grinding, learning new skills, building yourself up. And unless you got a large sum of money to invest, or you are able to build that sum and invest it, you’re always gonna have to keep hustling.
You said it. I been getting my level up by getting licensed and using my degree to boost my motion, been hittn' some good licks movin' around as a notary for a minute. I been investing that money in the stock market, and doubling back on my regular job. Shyt get hectic, but it's been keeping me straight. I can't complain.

They offshoring like crazy right now. I used to think I was dumb AF for picking a traditional engineering major instead of computer science because of how much more money software engineers were making and all the perks they had. But it's nice not having to worry about your job going to India or Poland.

I'd tell anyone that wants to go into engineering to try working for companies that have a more local focus. Utility companies, mining companies, oil & gas companies, civil engineering firms, aerospace & defense companies. In many of those areas, it's not even possible or legal to offshore that work or bring in H1Bs to do it. They may not have the glamour and pay of big tech software, but it'll be a lot harder to outsource your job.
