Was researching on diabetes on here and found this thread. Was "diagnosed" diabetic on Thursday. I think it might be false but who knows since my dad is diabetic. I could see why tho because I do eat a lot of bread and sugar, which I'm definitely gonna cut down on no matter what. Also had high cholesterol which my mom suffers from. Didn't really have any symptoms like going to the bathroom often or feeling tired. Whole
thing started cuz I would get this pain on my legs, like between my calves and ankles on the outer part when I would walk a lot and then go away with some rest. Might've been my shoes but I got new ones and it continued. Had a test of my veins done and everything was fine.
But my co-worker recommended me her doctor and I went for a visit. First time in like fifteen years, yeah I know. So with my family history, she recommended a blood test. So I was doing some research and they recommend fasting 8 hours before a blood test. I'm sure I fasted for at least 14 hours on mine. 9pm to 11am, but who knows if that affected anything.
So I went Thursday for the results and according to the test my glucose was 151 and something called ALT was 47 and range is (9-46). My hemogoblin a1c was 7.3.
Now I don't know if numbers could spike up like that suddenly or if there was seriously something wrong. I feel fine always. Unless stress causes diabetes but I don't think I have severe stress or anxiety.
Anyways she prescribes me metformin two a day and crestor. Plus vitamin d cuz she said that might be causing leg pain. Said take metformin for a week and then start crestor to see if any side effects. I got the meds yesterday and took the metformin. Then I took one again this morning. The doctor asked if I wanted a blood check machine and I said no, no need for that. She said to cut carbs and exercise which I try to do. Sitting at work doesn't help and even tho I have a stand up desk, that's not much either. So I'm talking to my parents today and they recommend getting a meter so I'll call the doctor on Monday for a script. But my mom's says I can't take metformin if my blood is low since it lowers it. She used a machine she has that she occasionally uses since she's prediabetic and it said I was at 84. I'm like how the hell I'm so low and the test said 151? But maybe that's just other factors.
Anyways I'll get a machine and test myself and not take the med if my blood sugar is fine. I don't mind cutting down or even out on the candy and junk food but I need protein in my life. Can't be depriving myself of nutrients. I like some vegetables and stuff like broccoli, cauliflower, quinoa, tuna, so I'm ok with eating healthy food but gotta have some balance. Gonna lose some weight as well but I'm pretty sure that my steadily increasing weight gain was some muscle also. Made a spreadsheet to track my measurements over the next six months to see what grows and what gets smaller.
I'll take better care of myself whether my diagnosis is a scam or not. Hardest part isn't being diabetic, it's the mental aspect of it. I'll see how it goes and then gotta go for blood work in September. Let's see what they tell me then. Cuz I'm in the belief that it's all a conspiracy by the food and medical companies to infect us and then make profits when we need meds. We do need to eat healthier, but ain't none of us own a food manufacturing plant.
