Love GangStarr, but was never a big fan of Guru's solo stuff.

SAME. I was a huge Gangstarr fan and Hard To Earn was one of my fave albums for a MINUTE in rotation (So was Daily Operation and Moment Of Truth) but it was him and Premier who brought the magic together otherwise I honestly did not get in to Guru that much. It was crazy because together they were a fave of mine and a top 10 Group to me hands down (Or Duo whatver you label them) but he is not touching Nas as an MC..... Nas is just next level on that end and this coming from a fan.

this is one of those opinions that are honestly fun to try and break down and understand. guru and nas are extremely respected but I cannot disassociate Guru's work from Primo's work so it makes sense to give Nas that favor, but at the same time Daily Op is very much a prototype to the sound Illmatic perfects.

Personal preference I'd give it to Guru because the journey from I Am... to Stillmatic is a a massive slog of dogshyt lmao
