The Afro-Guyanese live in Brooklyn and the Indo-Guyanese in Queens. Even in America they don’t mix.
:mjcry:
Anyway, the suicidal girls in the story must be indo-Guyanese. You already know Nikkas don’t go down like that.

The Indo Trinis living in Queens and Afro-Trinidadians in Brooklyn don't link up too much either.
The thread is for misleading, the suicide rate is among people of East Indians not people of black/African descent.

They have mixed more than you thought its just the ignorant political parties that are racists that cause a divide, more than 6 years ago, the country was recorded to be at least 20% mixed in 2012,6 years later as of now in 2018 it might be even more mixed. Guyana isn't half East Indian although they are the largest ethnic group there.

One of the poorest countries in the world with little to no infrastructure and massively underdeveloped - 60% of the country is forested.

No real natural resources that are sought after on the world market, the history of slavery and indentured slavery is still rife in the country. You see it in the political make up of the government - the "Indian" guyanese who came to Guyana as "workers" but really they were just slaves getting pennies to work and then the black guyanese who are descendants of slaves who worked the plantations as well. This social divide has riddled the country ever since independence as when a majority black government is in, they do more to help black guyanese and when Indian guyanese are in power, they do the same. This goes back and forth and there's real bad blood between the two with violent outbreaks happening between them often.

Country has never really been able to progress because of this and most of the people are poor due to government corruption like most Caribbean and South American countries. Factor in lack of food resources, materials for housing (a lot of wooden shack like homes throughout Guyana), poor education system, isolation... this can lead to crippling depression. Most of the suicides are done by drinking poison.... beautiful country with strong resilient people. I wish the world knew more about this little black country in South America, it's really a hidden gem with lots of potential but the social, economic and political make up of society in Guyana make this seem impossible. Shorty from Black Panther who played T'Challa sister is Guyanese btw...

Here is a list of the poorest countries in the world.Guyana is only 3rd poorest in the Western Hemisphere it is bad but not horrible like other underdeveloped countries. Here is another list of the poorest countries.

Guyana has an abundance of minerals diamonds, gold, lithium, palladium, coltan, and all kind of natural resources discovered there.. The majority black political parties which would be called(PNC) has never done anything for blacks down there, the blacks only follow them because they fear them. If you know how corrupt cops (which are majority PNC) you would know why.The country was the poorest at the height of the PNC Burnham reign during the late 70s and early 80s. In the late 90s and early 2000s during the with PPP being the ruling party of the country, the PNC party was split between Desmond Hoyte and Robert Corbin. Only reason they won the last presidential election is because they had an alliance with with other parties called APNU. Truth be told, PPP(the East Indian party) even gets hired gunmen from PNC(Afro-Guyanese) to shoot other black renegades down there, especially when black criminals break out of jail.

Anyway its struggling but country was once called the breadbasket of the West Indian sphere. You're right country is resilient ,before the Haitian Revolution there was the Berbice Revolution in which blacks down there took over the COUNTRY albeit it was for 9 months .

Shout out to all my Guyanese. This is surprising. I don't remember hearing a conversation about suicide within the Guyanese community.

The guyanese I've encountered are very proud and kind people...Just like you I'm caught off guard by this one because the ones I know never talked about this...

Many times they've expressed frustration with the isolated indian population back home but never this mane....Most of em are seventh day adventist and jehovah witnesses so you know some fukked up shyt is going on over there ..:mjcry:

I met your former president Bharrat Jagdeo once. He seemed cool to a breh but I can understand if Blacks and Indians beef. Sad because they both are probably poor.
Im not into politics like that but from what i hear dude was extremely corrupt and didn't do much for blacks. The country seems to be turning a corner but it'll be a shythole for a while unless things stay on the upward trend. Its also tough when Brooklyn alone has more of your populace than the homeland does. Beautiful place though...going for Christmas this year with the fam :blessed:

Yea but neither did Hoyte or Burnham do much for blacks when they were in power, Hoyte and Burnham only screamed Black Unity in Guyana to get into power and get support from blacks, the real hardline pushers for blacks were people like Rodney. Add insult to injury the Guyanese economy did better under Jagdeo and Jagan....

This is definitely debatable, but like I said i don't know enough to be the person to do it. I think one thing i can say with conviction though, is that Jimmy Carter advocating for fairer elections really handed the country to the Indians seeing as they had the majority and voted their own in from then on, even if they didn't do anything for them. Crime, unemployment, all got worse after that Burnham era. Most of the older generation i know speak about the past in a much better light. Black people did well in old Guyana for the most part The last elections seem to be better though so let's hope the country does better.
