Well if I'm the professor I would explain to my students why they must wear business attire during their presentations, job interviews etc.. but its not my place to force young adults to wear certain attire or hairstyles... ESPECIALLY when they're paying my salary... This what a lot of you don't seem to understand... I understand why I need to cut my dreads for my big interview with a company... But forcing me to do it while im still in school is a bunch of bullshyt

i mean you know they have career fairs come to the school, you try and get internships over the summer, etc. you meet your companies and representatives before you even really interview with them as a chance to build a rapport with them and start up connections. so technically you are starting your career before you finish school. i feel you though, the rule is supposed to help knock down a barrier that is very real for us in society right now. but again, if people dont like it the door is always there

Apples and Oranges my dude...Me shaving my beard and not having dreads was a personal choice in which I thought it would give me a better advantage of not appearing "threatening" to the HCIC(Head Caucasian In Charge)..They hold the power so you have to play the game until you can make your own moves.

A school mandating an appearance requirement when YOU'RE the one paying the tuition is a little over the top to me.

yep. when you are the boss you can make your own rules. since there are so few bosses of our skin color right now, not many rules are being made in our favor.

That seems like an issue an institution of higher learning could teach these kids before they get into the working world instead of teaching them that they're basically ugly and destined for a 9-5 before they even get out the door. Are you in a position of authority at your job? How many black people can look to you and say "Mowgli is the reason I'm employed." Do you have your own company? How many black people have you hired? Have you gone to the HR department questioning why so few black people are in leadership positions?

So is that how the world should look? We're talking about people whos job it is to educate you, not assimilate you. Not everyone plans on being a white slave their whole life. Entrepeneurship isnt even an option from this cac loviing university.

A great majority of pin stripe suit wearing african presidents are educated in the west or in western influenced territories. so its logic they're going to imitate what the white man tells them is acceptable. They may not have dreads but with the way many of them dress i doubt they could get hired at Mcdonalds.
