until black people hire each other, it is what it is. gotta play their game by their rules. :yeshrug:

marcuz is a c00n but in this instance, he's white......I mean right :troll:

There's only two options

1) Black people conform to white america's standard and hope to be accepted.

2) Black people create and support our own industries outside of white america.

I'm not saying that the college should force the kids to cut there hair. I'm commenting on what you said.

You said it's sad black people are asking permission to be ourselves. shyt, they're asking white people to give them a job so they can live. It'd be one thing if you were in this thread saying this is why we really need to start creating and supporting more black owned businesses so shyt like this wouldn't happen. But you ain't saying that.

If black people want to be a part of white american society (and they obviously are if they're going to work for white companies) don't be so shocked if they tell you you need to conform to their rules to be allowed in.

yeah basically. when successful, professional black people start wearing dreads and braids, it will start to become more accepted in the business world. as of now, if you are young and trying to get a job, being on your rebellious shyt wearing braids cause you "aint a house nikka" will have you standing in the unemployment line.

the first thing that will help this process is more black business owners so more black people can wear their hair how they want.

but some of yall got the blinders on so heavy and scared of being a house nikka so you dont hear me tho

Im not going to speak on ideals because realistically, youre hair has nothing to do with your ability to do your job effectively. If those are the requirments of getting a job, you have a make a choice. Its just a reailty that white people are the gatekeepers to your physical appearence and you have to bow down to that before it even matters. They tell you, you're ugly and before you even have a job you have an institution telilng you to look a certain way to live up to the standards whites have set forth. Its sick.

Still, we're talking about a black college teling kids to cut their hair to appease white people, before they even get a job. The alumni is run by house nikkas. Why you cant see that is troubling.

The college is telling the kids to be prepared for what is out there. No dreadlock person is getting hired to be the face of any company..... they are selling a product.

And don't give me that dreads are part of black history BS. I'm a second generation African immigrant(grandfather was Ghanaian) and I have traveled Africa well enough to know most men over there don't wear dreads. Even over there in Africa dreads have a BAD reputation anyone who has been to Africa before can confirm.

from the home of coca-cola, i'm not referring to s
I used to sit in on interviews. I tell you no lie...when it comes to dressing for job interviews and formatting a resume black men are LOST.

Schools...especially HBCUs...should feel obligated to enforce some type of dress code to get these folks prepared for the REAL WORLD.
I agree with this, but all of this, from dress code attire, to grooming, to resume formats can be TAUGHT to students without forcing them to shave their heads like the army...

So all of these black college graduates are having trouble finding employment because they are trying to be down and cool with dreadlocks and cornrows? Why cant people just admit that white people dont want to compete with black people for jobs like that.

The way the game is played is self ownership and appointing leaders from your community into positions of power over regions of land. Add a criminal underworld to the mix and you've got a functioning society.

If you don’t believe that racism in the job market is real, then please read this article by Yolanda Spivey. Spivey, who was seeking work in the insurance industry, found that she wasn’t getting any job offers. But as an experiment, she changed her name to Bianca White, to see if employers would respond differently. You’ll be shocked and amazed by her phenomenal story.

We arent really saying anything different.

Im just saying black folks arent helping themselves w/ trying to keep it real so much.
Like others have noted, brothas dont know how to dress in a professional environment, dont know how to keep a well kept appearance, and dont know how to maintain small talk and befriend people unlike themselves.

I read that thing you posted before...of course black folks have some forces against us, but its not impossible to get ahead. There are plenty of white people that have been out of jobs for years...its just how it is now.
If you cant hustle, youre dead...and that is the new economy.

I know im repeating myself, but I cant stress enough how important relationships in the business world are. A big reason some of these white cats get ahead is because of the people they know. A lot of black folks arent even trying to get close to these people.

I can tell you from first hand experience, and experience w/ other folks...There are a lot of white folks with money and connections that are looking for black faces to join their circle...but brothas insist its impossible to get ahead in the system so I dont even try to work it.

I wish I could really break some of this shyt down for yall...ive been around some old North East coast BIG money...all them cats arent bad. What is holding you back is your brain.

These cats are keyboard revolutionaries. None of these nikkas is bucking the system in real life. It's just easy to be behind a keyboard and pretend to be a black militant.

:beli: so you think its better to tell them to wear a suit during presentations than to actually have them comfortable and prepared by making them wear suits? or is that just conforming to more of the white mans rules :shaq2:

i think some of yall are mad they arent bullshytting and sellin them dreams like they can walk into any office in modern day america and get a job with braids/dreads. if you want to learn somethin you can go to a library and read a book, they actually trying to prepare you by having you do what you want to do for the rest of your life.

I could careless what other colleges do. This is a private college, if the kids feel it's unfair they can go somewhere else but I support the decision 100%.

Looking presentable has nothing to do with pleasing the white man. Dreads are equally frowned upon by Africans.

I think my biggest issue is shouldn't someone in a MBA program figure out that they should cut their dreads once they leave school to improve job prospects?

I agree, but in college? :usure: Its just symbolic of how far gone black people are mentally.

No ones shocked. Its shocking that a black college is asking kids to conform before it really even matters. That seems like an issue an institution of higher learning could teach these kids before they get into the working world instead of teaching them that they're basically ugly and destined for a 9-5 before they even get out the door. Its funny when you go into the corporate world and see cacs bearded the fukk up, muslims bearded the fukk up, indians not washing but here u are, trying to be the model negro for a white boy that probably gonna throw your resume in the Trash if he reads an *ethnic* name.

I guess we need a white savior to pave the way for us to get judged by the content of our work ethic. In Mark Zuckerberg we trust.

Its just sad seeing you college nikkas work so hard and to happily get treated like trash for crumbs.

But the ugly truth is that the road to success that the degree they've earned was supposed to open up is littered with potholes that their education alone cannot overcome. This year, blacks who have earned a bachelor's degree and higher have a higher unemployment rate than whites who have only obtained a two-year college degree. And blacks with college degrees earn substantially less than white college graduates.

In 2008, the mean annual income of blacks with a four-year degree was more than $13,000 less than that of whites with the same level of education. And blacks who had a master's earned about $1,500 a year less than whites with a bachelor's degree.

Keep thinkin its your hair though. :mjpls:

Well if I'm the professor I would explain to my students why they must wear business attire during their presentations, job interviews etc.. but its not my place to force young adults to wear certain attire or hairstyles... ESPECIALLY when they're paying my salary... This what a lot of you don't seem to understand... I understand why I need to cut my dreads for my big interview with a company... But forcing me to do it while im still in school is a bunch of bullshyt
