But honestly NOTHING that predates Jay vs Nas was as intense and good.

MAYBE Kane and Ra could have gotten us there. Maybe if Big had responded to Pac but most beefs are either one sided or with rappers who are not as respected.

Even Jay and Nas from that point forward appeared to deliberately avoid directly engaging with artists like 50 and Cam to the same degree from that point forward.

Theres definitely some facts in the verse but it doesn't really matter. Nas' career was looking weak at that time, all Jay needed to do was call him on it. And he had better sounding raps with better production.

The beat on Ether is immediately a fail, whereas Takeover still sounds good.
