My Pops Forever RIP
I think people just want Hov to break down and show emotion or cry, get mad, something on record when he's never been about that and never will be about that.

A song like You Must Love Me is a song with substance. Now, let someone like DMX have a song like that, and he'll make you teary eyed. Hov raps it and you're like :manny:

That's just how he is. His emotion just won't translate on a track the way we'd ideally want it to.

Exactly. Some people just don't have personalities like to let their emotions out, it makes you think they're insincere sometimes. Like "Minority Report" doesn't come across that well because it's hit rapping it.

I've come to this conclusion. Maybe I just want him to just spill his guts out on a track cause I'm one of those people who know that Jay does have it in him. I guess my criticism comes from dissapointment than any sort of "hate" or "trolling".

But why not? I'm sure that's coming...and I'm pretty sure his fans would really appreciate it especially coming from where he's been till now.

That was the first track that came to mind. People we saying that it felt force. I didn't think so. I feel he can't when he makes songs like this because don't believe him. People have a image of Jay and no matter what he does its not going to change people.

Why should he?

why shouldn't he? We've been waiting. You think a man from the Marcy Projects who blew up to be one of the biggest pop culture icons and most accomplished rappers in the world doesn't have some stories to tell or some wisdom to bestow on us?

Looks to me like Jay did have some stories he told us, but that doesn't mean he has to change his whole format (especially one that works quite well) to do that.

Really, that's how you lose fans...

I fukk with jay z old shyt...

But this nikka ain't really sayin' nothin' at all... If anything I think his music was way more meaningful n clever pre 2001...

I think he's lead some people to believe he's the GOAT just by repeatin' it too much... he's in my top 10 tho cuz his catalog is huge with some great tracks n he has a personal classic under his belt (RD)... but I don't fukk with the camel anymore n I think he washed up...

As for the OP, I think he's regressed if anything... you can tell he a pretty busy nikka nowadays cuz he don't put much effort into his bars anymore :scusthov:...

He'll have a place in hip hop forever cuz of his long n consistent career at the top in the mainstream... But he not in the rakim nas pac biggie face cube bracket to me...

The I in Team
I think that while Jay has introspective songs his overall body of work is pretty shallow. More often than not its consisted of "I used to and enjoyed selling drugs and let me show you all the ways I'm richer than you". To me the most introspective albums from him were his first and what should have been his last (black album). Right now to me Jay is like scarface after he linked up with Sosa, lazy, rich and uninspired. He's a marketing force tho, so any album he puts out is still an event, but if you listen to jay during his mid 2000 rockafella days compared to now you see his loss of hunger.

I'm a fan, but I'm just besides myself sometimes thinking that this man is 40 something, been around for over 20 years and has yet to make a song with any real substance.

You must love me had no substance? Regrets? Momma loves me? Where have you been? Lost one?

Do you listen to music or do you just skim through it

The Opposite Of Elliott Wilson's Mohawk
PICASSO... IN MY CASA... HASSA :why:

Hes had some moments here and there, but overall, objectively, he has regressed. His introspection peaked with his first 2 albums and then spiked again with BP1. His vocal presence/delivery has eroded over time, going from cool and confident to somewhat grating and whiny. His creativity/forward thinking shifted from the music to just marketing the music. And he still hasn't made good on his "if skills sold" promise. The top 3 selling artists last year were him (w/the first million customers being Samsung), Drizzle and Kendrick- the two most lyrical nikkas in the mainstream. And yet he is still borrowing other nikkas flows and rhymes, and spitting hollow materialistic garbage while marketing it like its the second coming of Basquiat. My measure of dude's progression is simple... I haven't really fukked w/a Jay disc since TBA. Everything else has hovered from ehh (didnt like AG's production) to just straight up wack (KC, BP3).
