Has there been a multiplayer first person shooter truly built on SKILL in a decade?

halo 3 took alot of skill

I played over 10,000 games of Halo 3...it's one of my most played and cherished halo games...it did not take a lot of skill. Halo 1, Halo 2 and Reach (MLG v7 playlist, not the other bullshyt) were more skillful than H3.

The BR's horrible bullet spread which made the weapon random and useless outside of close/mid-range alone kills the skill talk.

The net-code was fukking horrible, now combine that with the random BR and other weapons that didn't work properly...pure fukkery

The aiming sucked...go back and play H3 after playing Reach or H4 and you will wonder wtf is up with your sticks..shyt is weird

Rockets and grenades were weak...way too weak.

Remember getting all those blood shots from the sniper or the shyt just straight up not registering head shots? yea...skillful

The game did a lot for competitive console gaming and the ranks, maps, 4 player theater and other things were fun at the time...but it's one of the weaker halo games in terms of skill.

:salute:

how the fukk did shadowrun slip my mind? smh and yes..John Howard worked his magic on both games.

Shadowrun was the GAWD game back when I first got my 360. All I had was the demo, and EVERYBODY was on there. Thats all I played for at least a year and it never got old. :ahh:

But no gears mention at all though brehs? at least gears 2 where you had to down someone then execute them to get a kill, instead of this phony bullshyt they have now. wall bounce >>>

I've seen a few posters drop Killzone 2 and nikkas just overlooked it.

:beli:

That game qualifies in this argument for me. Granted, some of the settings on default were fukked up, but with the proper game modes/settings that game is damn near flawless from a competitive and skill standpoint.

2 basic rifles
1 sniper
2 pistols
1 nade type
Spawn grenades
Learning curve for aim and movement

Good thread...I used to be heavy into FPS but post CoD 4 I havent been able to fukk with the genre at all. CoD 4 was actually a great game but its 100% responsible for ruining the genre. FPS used to be the highest skilled genre by far, Quake 3 all u need to say. I dont think any other game in history took more skill except maybe Starcraft Brood War. U werent even getting a shot off against a top player. CS is my fav fps off all time tho nothing will ever compare teamplay wise. Obv it wasnt on Q3 level skill wise but compared to today's FPS the difference is night and day.

Starcraft 2 is not a FPS..

He made sure to bump this nearly 3 year old thread to participate in the wrong way. :mjlol:

On topic: R6 Siege. You have to keep your wits about you at all times and have to actually pay attention to intricate details. Someone might be sitting behind a 3 inch kill hole just ready to let loose on you unexpectedly from across the room. :whew:

Movement and feel of UT99 ...with the scope of UT2004.
Great blend of both worlds in my opinion

Only thing I wish they had done was keep all the game modes like assault and bombing run from earlier games....and the tournament mode in UT2004. Actually anyone who goes back and plays the single player mode in UT2004 will see what I think all online lobby & matching systems should be structured like. The single player mode in UT2004 should've been the permenat structure of the UT online lobby system from that point forward. It was the perfect blend of in game skill talked about by the OP and "modern day" progression in games.

The money earned in game wasn't used to buy game breaking perks that unbalanced the in game fighting dynamics. The money was made to buy your way into matches, wager on teammates, buy/pay teammates, enter contest, etc. I.E. you can be constantly working towards something in terms of meta goals while not doing so in a way that throws off the skill based aspects ...which is what came about with Modern Warfare 2.
