His playing style wont work as he ages

I would say no. Westbrook is the better athlete, rebounder, and slasher. Payton is the greatest defensive pg ever, better passer, and more efficient scorer. He had a good post-up game also. Now that I think about it, I would love to see Russ vs. a '96 Glove one-on-one.

two totally different players, GP was a good offensive player but made his name on defense. Westbrook is a defensive sieve and puts up empty stats, m not sure how to compare them.

Overall, probably '95-'96 when he won DPOY and along with Kemp took the sonics to the finals. Offensively, it was 99-00, when he put up 24 and 8.

I think he passed him in 2015 when kd was out that's when he first started getting all those triple doubles

Gary Payton was on another level. He was a menace to defend because he was 6'4", had handles, was a hell of a finisher, could sink the 3 and would talk epic levels of shyt in your face. He could run the fast break but his game shined in the half court offense. Him & Kemp were unfair at times. His defense? The Glove's the only PG in league history to win DPOY.

He would've won a chip in 95-96 had George KKKarl's dumb ass let him guard Jordan in the Finals from the start instead of waiting for Game 3 to finally let the league's best defender take on Jordan.

Westbrook is a savage and will probably win MVP. Him averaging a triple double for the season was Herculean and phenomenal. But defensively, he doesn't compare to Payton. As far as playing styles go, we've seen that Russ' playing style can at times come to his team's detriment. That was never the case with Payton.

Zeke was on NBAgametime earlier this season during an OKC game and he was casually speaking on Russ. Said he's a phenomenal talent and plays at one speed, and while playing at that speed you can't help but be consistently inconsistent. Wasn't 100% sure you can win it all when your best player is that way.

I kinda wish Russ found himself on a team with someone who could force him to reign it in a bit. I don't think there are many figures who could get that out of him, that's not in KD/Hardens nature and they were all kids together anyway. Wasn't Scott Brooks and isn't Donovan. Pop, Riley, Brawn, etc.. are some of the only people I could see reigning him in and they're all rare.
