I would love to see Russ vs. a '96 Glove one-on-one.
I wouldn't.
Glove would be trolling Russy into doing so much stupid shyt in games it wouldn't even be funny.

The Sonics won 2 games in a row when they put Payton on Jordan
Till this day I am not sure why George Karl waited until game 4 to do that more often.
Jordan shot 36% or so those last 3 games
I favor players who put up meaningful stats and have shown they can play within a team structure over someone who chases triple doubles and is unreliably inconsistent and reckless at the worst times.
So for me personally this isn't close. I believe GP could have been the best player on a championship team. I don't feel that way about Russ.
Wasn't it Game 4 after the dropped the first three? No.
Gary Payton was on another level. He was a menace to defend because he was 6'4", had handles, was a hell of a finisher, could sink the 3 and would talk epic levels of shyt in your face. He could run the fast break but his game shined in the half court offense. Him & Kemp were unfair at times. His defense? The Glove's the only PG in league history to win DPOY.
He would've won a chip in 95-96 had George KKKarl's dumb ass let him guard Jordan in the Finals from the start instead of waiting for Game 3 to finally let the league's best defender take on Jordan.
Westbrook is a savage and will probably win MVP. Him averaging a triple double for the season was Herculean and phenomenal. But defensively, he doesn't compare to Payton. As far as playing styles go, we've seen that Russ' playing style can at times come to his team's detriment. That was never the case with Payton.
Westbrook gettin all that jawin from the Glove bout them clothesLow key, this is an interesting debate.
I would say no. Westbrook is the better athlete, rebounder, and slasher. Payton is the greatest defensive pg ever, better passer, and more efficient scorer. He had a good post-up game also. Now that I think about it, I would love to see Russ vs. a '96 Glove one-on-one.

Jordan's before/after numbers
Pre-Glove: 31 points, 46 fg%, 50 3fg%, 12.3 FTA.
Post-Glove: 23.7 points, 36.7 fg%, 11.1 3fg% 10 FTA.
What would have happened if GP started on Jordan game one is every bit as interesting a talking point as a hypothetical Rockets/Bulls match up.
Yeah, you're right...Game 4 was when KKKarl made that adjustment.

That 1/1 would be something special to watch![]()
You can pretend to be not intrigued. Westbrooks a beastPayton doesn't have the athleticism to check Westbrook especially sincr hand checking is prohibited.
Payton had Matt Maloney give him the business in 97 but Payton could have had current Westbrook on lockdown![]()
