Okay, think about it like this, outside of a hip-hop context... when you hear Bob Seager's song "Like a Rock"

What do you think of? An awesome single from a decent artist with great lyrics? No. You think of Chevy trucks. I think it's safe to say that the legacy of Bob's song has been impacted, for better or for worse, because of the association with Chevy truck commercials.

Now, in contrast, when you listen to a song like All Along the Watchtower:

You just think of the legend Jimi Hendrix killin' it. You may think of reckless drug use or something, but you're not thinking of car insurance, a bunch of Williamsburg hipsters, Starbucks coffee or any of that. Just the legend.

I dunno... it's great that Seager's song lives on through the Chevy brand but the actual music is worth that much more. "Like a Rock" is a beautiful song. The music is diminished by the fact that it's forever associated with schmaltzy advertising.
Now, when it comes to WuTang... it's like... they're forever linked with overt displays of utter lameness. Sure the logo is everywhere but it sucks that it's intrinsically linked with undeniable wackness.

Anyway... WUTANG CLAN AIN'T NOTHING TO FVCK WITH!

Now you just blatantly dissing Wu-Tang now.

At this point you really should stop posting cause you're "forever linked with overt displays of utter lameness" and "intrinsically linked with undeniable wackness.".

Judge people by their looks and not the content of their character, brehs.

It goes both ways. Younger people wear it now because it's retro and cool but probably don't really know about it.

But the same goes for those that wear Led Zepplin T-Shirts, so it's also a compliment because they've attained that "classic" status.

EDIT example Shania Twain with a Ramones shirt:

real shyt. my mom bought me a Jimi Hendrix shirt one year and i had to rock it at least around her. i felt like such a lame because i dont know shyt about Jimi other than Voodoo Child..but i realized the shyt is legendary and while i'll look like an idiot to an old head, its still paying that homage.

i personally dont agree with people rocking shyt they know nothing about

No way this fakkit is from Chicago. I stroll around Chi rocking Wu and get :salute: often. Wu at House of Blues in 2011 was crazy. Rae and Ghost at the Shrine earlier this year :whew:

Remember Wu-Wear? You obviously don't.

Wu's had merchandise since 1993 and it's BEEN apart of their legacy. I have a promo shirt from Polygram records with a magenta and blue w logo that I bought from a rock store years ago. That dates back to 1994. I have a wu-wear t from 1999!

It is what it is now though. it's almost 2014. Wu's been around for over 20 years. They like the rolling stones or daft punk of hip-hop at this point. ICONS.

Again, like it's been said the logo in itself adds to the appeal...

It's obvious you're getting old and have realized that yeah, musically they past their prime and things have changed now.

Holy shyt, all that emotion, bro. Chill our and have a discussion like a regular person. I can tell a lot of your problems in life stem from your childish outbursts. Just give it a rest and you'll be happier in life. I promise.

You mad because nobody gave you props for that dusty ass WuWear shirt you posted with the busted collar?

Well, maybe it would get more props if WuTang's sh!t hadn't been proliferated amongst the gentrification set. Maybe if they didn't make WuWear the butt of jokes in numerous skits and interludes it would command a bit more respect.

Nobody is dissing the Wu, boo-boo. They're legends. Nobody is denying that.

I'm just making the observation that they really made their gear only cool to people that don't actually fvck with rap and hip hop culture. Which is fine, especially for their pocketbooks, but it no doubt has had some effect on their legacy.

If I see someone wearing a Dipset shirt I know I can talk to them and share some good memories of an era in rap that's close to my heart. Can't say the same for someone wearing some Wu brand bullsh!t. Sorry.

Oh, and fvck Williamsburg and everything that neighborhood stands for. Everyone I've met from there and everyone I know that moved there strikes me as the kind of person to rock a Wu Brand t shirt while sharing "Knockout Game" news stories on Facebook.
