Okay, think about it like this, outside of a hip-hop context... when you hear Bob Seager's song "Like a Rock"
What do you think of? An awesome single from a decent artist with great lyrics? No. You think of Chevy trucks. I think it's safe to say that the legacy of Bob's song has been impacted, for better or for worse, because of the association with Chevy truck commercials.
Now, in contrast, when you listen to a song like All Along the Watchtower:
You just think of the legend Jimi Hendrix killin' it. You may think of reckless drug use or something, but you're not thinking of car insurance, a bunch of Williamsburg hipsters, Starbucks coffee or any of that. Just the legend.
I dunno... it's great that Seager's song lives on through the Chevy brand but the actual music is worth that much more. "Like a Rock" is a beautiful song. The music is diminished by the fact that it's forever associated with schmaltzy advertising.
Now, when it comes to WuTang... it's like... they're forever linked with overt displays of utter lameness. Sure the logo is everywhere but it sucks that it's intrinsically linked with undeniable wackness.
Anyway... WUTANG CLAN AIN'T NOTHING TO FVCK WITH!
