I have downplayed my intelligence to be with dudes before because if I spoke to them like I would speak to people school they would be like I don't understand that crap. They would talk about my degrees (B.S Biochemistry, Minor in Foreign Languages and Literature, and had M.D. by 25) like you on some Einstein ****. The most common line I have ever gotten was dang girl you smarter than you look, I didn't expect a girl who like you to be that smart.

Seriously dont even dumb yourself down for these dumb ass broke dudes.

I'm a pretty smart woman, and I have "played down" my intelligence to some extent. I learned a long time ago, not every nikka is as smart as I am so certain things I can't really speak on. But I'm adaptable and can fit myself into a lot of different social situations so it's no big deal to avoid certain conversations. If they say something I think is dumb, I'll say my peace but ultimately let it go if I have to cause ain't no changing nikkas minds and that mental energy doesn't need to be wasted.

That being said, most men may not be "intellectuals" or conventionally smart, but they can be extremely intelligent in the one or few things they specialize in be it cars, sports, their jobs, music, electronics whatever. My relationship with my father was such that he was always (ALWAYS) dropping knowledge on me, so I kinda naturally assume a man is smarter than me in some form or fashion and let him teach me what he knows.



Can't say I've ever been in a relationship where he never gave me at least ONE thing to about!!!

I'm not gonna lie... I get turned off by females who don't have just some basic knowledge. There was actually a chick I was talking to pretty hard in college, We used to talk pretty much everyday, sometimes multiple times a day. It was during the election time when people were trying to say that Obama wasn't born in the states....

So I was spitting some "knowledge" to her about how asinine the entire premise was. She proceeds to say to me...

"But so what if he's not born in the United States, it doesn't mean he can't be a good president"

My response:




I would have been okay with her saying.... "Nah B, that nikka wasn't born here. Get em out the race, nahm sayin?"

But I'm thinking, If that's your response then not only do you not know the law, but you don't even understand why people are making such a big deal out of it... After that I barely ever talked to her. Maybe I was overreacting.


But so what... it was turn off. Like, you don't need to be a political whiz, but if I can't have general conversation with you about politics and you have no political opinions to speak of... I can't fool with you

I used to play down my intelligence for women back in grade school, but now I honestly don't even speak to girls I don't consider my intellectual/academic peers. Not out of arrogance, I'm just saving both of us time and energy, cuz I know it's not going to go well. The last time I tried, the girl got frustrated because of my vocabulary/grammar and when I told her I was a poet she was like and said "don't you mean you're a rapper? "

Can't go back to that after going off to college and meeting girls who can discuss Marxism, race relations, gender roles, current affairs, the arts, and so forth at the drop of a dime
