Plenty of people struggling because they tried to "follow their dreams" and do what they thought was best.
For kids who are upper-middle class, and have parents who tell them to be bankers, managers, lawyers, doctors, dentists, etc.
Parental advice is better than running the streets of LA trying to be an actor/photographer/model/Youtube personality.
Breh I come across this shyt so much out here it infuriates me man.

Funny thing is I'm "connected". But I never tell people....

shyt that's nothing. My ex was an attorney and, in 2012, had $250k in negatively amortizing student loans. It was honestly one of the reasons I broke up with her. Last I heard she was back in school for some other shyt too. She was an attorney, though, so the potential existed for her to pay it down.
Was she a corporate attorney, in public-interest, or federal?
That V100 corporate salary will let her pay it off in a few years if she's diligent.
PSLF will forgive her loans if she's federal/state or public-interest.

Go to a private college for a drama/communication degree on loans :snoop:

so stupid ....she should've at least went to a public college and came out w/ a bill under 50k plus she would've gotten all kinda grants which would've made a real impact on her bill

People gotta stop living for their parents.

Your parents are gonna grow old and die and youre gonna be by yourself one day

Its your life. Not theirs.

People gotta do whats best for them... Not blindly following their parents or society.
I agree my father in Luanda was trying to make me, conform to his ideals. My old man ended up going into depression when I dropped out of University, but I told him that I wasn't doing my best because I wasn't invested in my studies and I told him "it's not like you are paying for my tuition fees anyway" Eventually he respected my decision, but was still disappointed. It took me awhile to man up and tell him what I was planning to do because I cared too much about what my dad and others thought of me. However, It's always advised that an individual has more than one plan as this life has a shyt ton of roadblocks that are there for you to fail and never get back up from failiure.

I am so glad I paid all my loans off, granted they only totaled 26k and I paid out of pocket for my masters.

115k will take a LONG time to pay off, you HAVE to have a scholarship if you are attending a school that expensive or else it is just not worth it.

nah. u cant expect a young kid to know the consequences of loans. if anyone is to blame, its her parents for not helping her understand what loans mean and how she has to pay them back
I assume you are from the U.S. you're country thrives off loans and debts. So basically the children will grow up being indoctrinated to that mindset.

Man.... My same exact problems bro. Lol.

Pops actually sqaured up with me when I told him I was dropping out.

He went thru a series of emotions.... Shock... Sadness... Betrayal... Anger.... And then he squared up and start throwing haymakers hahahaha

I respect my pops too much to fight the nikka back so I just had to take those few punches

I moved out a couple weeks later.

My folks wont allow you to live on their dime if youre not going to school.

Luckily I had bread stacked already.

Left & never came back.

State for a while, went corporate in 2016. Haven't heard from her since.

Luckily my dad lives in another country so when he received my revelation he couldn't do shyt and even if he could the dude is only 5'6 or 5'5. My mother supported me wholeheartedly so at the start there was no rush to leave the premises. Eventually, I left because I wanted my own space.

She graduated in 09

Im well aware of the general discourse that was around black children in that time frame, and i attended a viable college prep school at pretty much the same time she was in highschool

"Go get you an education" ....i dont know what to pursue "well, study what you like"

At the time, that sounded reasonable enough...but as time passed, IN RETROSPECT, it sounds foolish in todays world...but that's what she, and generally other blacks, were working with...i was at that exact crossroad

Among all the other possibilities, i see this eventually curving towards self correction....this lady is of the age group that were misinformed that a degree (not an advanced or specialized degree....simply a degree or "education ") will lead to worthwhile money ...now that that has obviously rung false among the masses , so this will be considered much more down the line by the youths

But these type of situations arent exclusive to degree weve grown to scoff at today, for black people...until we, black people, are in a position to utilize these degrees ourselves, they will always be underutilized...regardless of what it is

And the real problem is that we'll accept education costing that much, but hey maybe we shouldn't expect much from American sensibilities

No sympathy for her. The hell are you going to do with a drama and communications degree?! :dahell:
Drama I don't know, but every corporation I've worked for has a huge communications dept. Whether its for marketing or crisis management, corporations need people to clean up and tune the message. She didn't necessarily pick a bad major, she just went about it in a really bad way.

Everyone is dumping on her, but let's be honest, most 17-19 year olds are not the best decision makers. A lot of people escape college with little debt because they are lucky (i.e. rich parents, only got into cheap schools, scholarships etc).
